Agent: ‘Napoli wanted Gonalons’

Maxime Gonalons’ agent says Napoli “called me every day”, the year before his client joined Roma.

The midfielder joined the Giallorossi this summer, having spent his entire career at Lyon, but he has so far struggled to break into the side.

“Gonalons isn’t playing much because he has a legend like [Daniele] De Rossi in front of him,” Frederic Guerra explained on Radio Crc.

“He didn’t come to Roma to be De Rossi’s replacement, but to be ready when that player starts to drop.

Juventus scout Lyon's Diakhaby

Juventus director Fabio Paratici was spotted scouting France Under-21 international and Lyon talent Mouctar Diakhaby.

Paratici was in the stands for the France Under-21 side’s game against Montenegro in Troyes this week.

According to Calciomercato.com, he was there specifically to view Diakhaby, a 20-year-old centre-back who came up through the Olympique Lyonnais academy.

Lyon know Atalanta now

Olympique Lyonnais had never heard of Papu Gomez or Atalanta, but the complacent French giants were given a crash course, writes Billy Wilkinson.

A draw at Stade de Lyon has put Atalanta in a position they most likely didn’t think they’d be in – they’re top of their Europa League group after two games. The Bergamo based club were dealt a ‘group of death’ containing Lyon, Everton and Cypriot side Apollon Limassol. However, according to FiveThirtyEight, Atalanta have a 95% chance to advance to the knockout rounds.

Genesio: 'Naive Lyon error'

Lyon Coach Bruno Genesio admits they made “a really naïve mistake” on the Papu Gomez goal, as Atalanta grabbed a 1-1 draw.

Bertrand Traore opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time, on the rebound from yet another Etrit Berisha save, but Gomez blasted his touched-on free kick through the wall.

“We had a good game, but there are some regrets,” said Genesio in his Press conference.
