De Ligt: 'I need shoulder surgery'

Matthijs de Ligt confirms he can finally ‘have that shoulder surgery’ after Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League by Olympique Lyonnais.

The Bianconeri were unable to overturn the 1-0 first leg defeat, as with a 2-1 win in Turin last night, they were eliminated on away goals.

That means the 2019-20 season is over for Juve and De Ligt, who has been postponing an operation practically since November.

Zidane, Pochettino or Inzaghi for Juve?

Following the Champions League exit, Juventus are reportedly looking at replacements for Maurizio Sarri, including Zinedine Zidane, Mauricio Pochettino and Simone Inzaghi.

The Bianconeri crashed out of Europe’s premier competition at the Round of 16 phase, unable to overturn the 1-0 first leg defeat to Olympique Lyonnais.

They won 2-1 in Turin on Friday night, but it was not enough to avoid elimination on away goals.

Juve's Champions League curse continues

Juventus failed in Europe yet again, this time eliminated by a tactically-astute Lyon, but Elio Salerno saw problems that extend far beyond just Maurizio Sarri.

It was another night of misery in the Champions League for Juventus, as The Old Lady were again sent packing in Europe’s elite football competition. The feeling of disappointment will be overwhelming for Juventini, but what will perhaps hurt the most is that this latest elimination is not at all surprising.

Agnelli: 'Juve will evaluate everything'

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli backed his directors, coach Maurizio Sarri and Cristiano Ronaldo, but ‘the Champions League has to be an objective and we’ll take a few days to evaluate everything.’

The Bianconeri crashed out of the Champions League in the Round of 16, losing on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate draw with Olympique Lyonnais, a side that finished seventh in Ligue 1 this term.

Sarri: 'I expected less from Juventus'

Maurizio Sarri surprisingly said he ‘expected less’ from Juventus after their Champions League exit to Lyon. ‘I thought we put in a great performance this evening.’

The Bianconeri had lost the first leg 1-0 in France back in February and that was ultimately too big an obstacle to overcome.

Garcia: 'My best moment so far'

Olympique Lyonnais coach Rudi Garcia said knocking out Juventus at the Allianz Stadium was ‘one of the most satisfying moments’ in his career so far.

The visitors arrived with a 1-0 advantage from Groupama Stadium in February and when Memphis Depay scored a penalty after 12 minutes, Juventus needed three goals to turn the game around.

Buffon: 'Juve didn't get as far as thought'

Gigi Buffon tries to reassure his ‘distraught’ Juventus teammates after another Champions League exit. ‘We didn’t go as far as we wanted to, or thought we’d get.’

The Bianconeri had to overturn a 1-0 first leg defeat to Lyon, but when Memphis Depay converted a penalty in Turin for a precious away goal, even Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace was not enough.

Pjanic: 'Juventus have to do much more'

Miralem Pjanic concedes Lyon ‘really should’ve been within our grasp’ and Juventus need to ‘do much more’ in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace gave them a 2-1 win on the night, but that Memphis Depay penalty and the 1-0 first leg result in France saw Lyon go through on away goals.

“It’s hugely disappointing for us, as we really wanted to get through to the next phase and continue this competition,” Pjanic told Sky Sport Italia.

Bonucci: 'Juve did all we could'

Leonardo Bonucci insists Juventus ‘proved our fitness levels’ by pinning Lyon back, but lost this Champions League tie in the first leg.

Cristiano Ronaldo converted a penalty and scored a stunner, cancelling out the debatable Memphis Depay spot-kick, for a 2-1 Bianconeri victory on the night.

Due to the 1-0 away defeat, Juve went out of the competition on away goals at the Round of 16 stage.

“There’s disappointment, obviously,” the captain told Sky Sport Italia.
