Official: Castan joins Sampdoria

Roma defender Leandro Castan has officially joined Sampdoria on loan.

The centre-back had already been training with his new teammates and Coach Marco Giampaolo.

A statement made the move official this evening – a dry loan with no option to buy.

The loan costs Samp €0.5m, rising to €0.75m depending on bonuses.

It’s a chance for Castan to play regularly after missing the entire 2014-15 season due to delicate brain surgery.

Castan takes Sampdoria medical

Roma centre-back Leandro Castan is taking a medical ahead of his move to Sampdoria.

As reported yesterday, the Brazilian defender is very close to agreeing a move to the Blucerchiati, though it’s not clear if it’s an outright transfer or a loan.

Gianluca Di Marzio’s website carries a picture of Castan arriving for his medical in Rome, with the player offering no comment on how close a transfer is.

Castan set for Samp medical

Roma's Leandro Castan is about to have his medicals in Rome ahead of signing for Sampdoria today, say reports.

The Brazilian defender, once an undoubted starter for the Giallorossi, saw his career take a nosedive after brain surgery forced him off the pitch for a year.

He will now attempt to kick things off again with Sampdoria, who look set to pick him up on a free loan deal.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Castan will undergo his medicals today, and if they are passed without problems, he will thereafter sign for the Blucerchiati.

Castan to Sampdoria tomorrow?

Roma defender Leandro Castan will reportedly have his Sampdoria medical tomorrow.

The Brazilian centre-back had brain surgery in December 2014, and understandably found it hard to recover for last season, making just four Serie A starts.

The 29-year-old has been in talks with Sampdoria, and Sky is reporting that he will take his medical with the Blucerchiati tomorrow.

Ferrero: ‘Samp want every Roma player!’

Massimo Ferrero says Sampdoria “are interested in every Roma player”.

The Blucerchiati are believed to be close to a deal for Leandro Paredes, while it has been suggested that a deal could be done between the two clubs for Patrik Schick of Sparta Prague.

“Castan? It’s not official yet, but we’re working on it,” Ferrero admitted to PagineRomaniste.

“Leandro Paredes? Let’s see. As for Schick, we’re working well but we’re confident.

Castan all-clear for Sampdoria

Roma defender Leandro Castan has given the all-clear to join Sampdoria on loan, claim Sky Sport Italia.

The 29-year-old centre-back is under contract until June 2018.

He made only six appearances over the last two seasons, having undergone surgery to remove a cavernoma – irregular blood vessels in the brain – that made him permanently dizzy.

Castan has fully recovered, but could not break back into the Giallorossi squad.

Samp have long been interested in Castan and a loan spell.

Roma's Castan towards Samp

Sampdoria are now in pole to sign Roma's Leandro Castan, though reports are conflicting on his present circumstances.

The defender used to be one of the most valuable in the Giallorossi's back-line before health problems forced him to miss a whole year of football.

He has not been the same since his return and the club from the capital are no longer willing to wait for him.

Defence revolution for Roma

Roma look to sell all defenders but Kostas Manolas, and bring in Genoa's Cristian Ansaldi, Real Madrid's Nacho, and Borussia Monchengladbach's Nico Elvedi.

The Giallorossi will have a whole new backline next season, at least until Antonio Rudiger recovers from injury.

La Gazzetta dello Sport ran a report covering the club's options in defence, and it appears almost all of their defenders will be leaving.

Roma plan Castan loan

Roma are planning to loan Leandro Castan to Corinthians for free, with the player's consent.

The central defender returned to the pitch this season after surgery and a long recovery time from a brain disease, but his athletic form is still far from ideal.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, while Castan was initially determined to stay at Roma, he has now changed his mind.

Both the player and the club now believe that the best option is to loan him out and let him regain his form abroad.

Castan: ‘I won’t leave Roma'

Leandro Castan declares he won’t leave Roma unless he’s told to - “my dream is to win a trophy”.

The centre-back had brain surgery last season, and has struggled to get back to his best so far this term, making just four Serie A starts.

That has led to speculation that he could move back to his native Brazil, but the 29-year-old is determined to win back his place in the Giallorossi defence.

“There have been a lot of rumours, but no concrete offer,” Castan explained to Goal.
