Inter-owned Monza loanee Valentin Carboni made his senior international debut for Argentina as a second half substitute in their 3-1 victory over Costa Rica in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Carboni, who has been with Monza since the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign, came on in the 81st minute as a replacement for former Juventus winger Angel Di Maria.

Monza sent out a tweet congratulating the 19-year-old on his first international appearance, which was captured by Argentine network TyC Sports.

Speaking after full-time about his latest batch of debutants, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said: Walter (Benitez) had a good game, as did Garnacho and Carboni.

“It’s not easy to play with this shirt, but they did great.”

Carboni was one of four Serie A representatives to come off the bench for Argentina against Costa Rica.

Roma’s Leandro Paredes was also given a run-out, as was Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez and Inter’s leading goalscorer Lautaro Martinez, who broke an 18-month drought in front of goal for his nation.
