Alessandro Bastoni reveals what Antonio Conte told him after that fantastic assist that allowed Inter to beat Juventus 2-0. ‘We’d been trying for a long time.’

It was a dominant Derby d’Italia performance for the Nerazzurri, as Arturo Vidal’s header and Nicolò Barella running onto a magnificent Bastoni long ball sealed the 2-0 result.

“We really wanted to win this and prepared well,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

Ten years ago, Juventus were coming from two successive seventh place finishes in Serie A with Andrea Agnelli settling on Antonio Conte, a die-hard Juventus fan and a legend of the club, to return the Old Lady winning ways.

Of course, Conte couldn’t do it all on his own. Juventus signed Andrea Pirlo as a free agent from Milan and Arturo Vidal for €10m from Bayer Leverkusen. 

Nobody expected Juventus to win the Scudetto ahead of Max Allegri’s Milan who could count on the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, just to name a few.

Conte ‘wasn’t convinced about Pirlo’

Tuttosport explains why Antonio Conte ‘wasn’t convinced’ about Andrea Pirlo when the former midfielder joined Juventus as a free agent in 2011.

Pirlo moved to Turin in a free transfer from Milan in the summer of 2011.

Antonio Conte had just moved to the Allianz Stadium for his first season in charge of the Bianconeri and according to Tuttosport, he was not convinced about the signing of the 2006 World Cup winner who was 33 at that time.

“Conte wasn’t convinced about his reliability,” writes the Turin-based paper.

Good news for Conte ahead of Derby d'Italia

Inter coach Antonio Conte had Stefano Sensi, Matias Vecino, Andrea Pinamonti and Matteo Darmian back in training ahead of the match against Juventus.

Calciomercato.com reports the Nerazzurri had the four players back in group training two days before the match against the Old Lady.

Danilo D’Ambrosio was the only one absent and thus ruled out of the Derby d’Italia.

Inter are second in the League ahead of the big game, with Juventus four points behind at fourth.
