Serie C: Cerci joins Arezzo

Arezzo have officially announced the arrival of free agent Alessio Cerci.

The former Roma, Atalanta, Fiorentina, Torino, Genoa and Hellas Verona player has been without a club since leaving Salernitana on September 1 this year.

Arezzo have announced his arrival in Serie C, as the 33-year-old returned to Italy after a spell at Ankaragucu in August 2019.

“There’s a cherry: a player who has decided to marry our project,” Arezzo sporting director Di Bari said at a press conference.

Melegoni set for Genoa

Genoa have reportedly won the chase for Atalanta midfielder Filippo Melegoni, who will arrive on a two-year loan with an obligation to buy.

Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports the Rossoblu beat Parma in the battle for the 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Pescara in Serie B.

The centre-midfielder should arrive in Genoa tonight and carry out the usual medical visit tomorrow, before signing a deal with the Grifoni.

Ex-Fiorentina defender loses son

Former Fiorentina and Arezzo defender Michele Bacis is in mourning after his eight-year-old son fell from a balcony.

It’s reported the child was playing on the balcony last night when he lost his footing and fell from the balcony in his home.

He was rushed to hospital, but died of his injuries.

It has been a horrific period for Baci, who lost his uncle a few weeks ago to COVID-19.

The 40-year-old played for Atalanta, Fiorentina, Arezzo, Genoa, Avellino, Cremonese, Monza and Paganese before retiring in 2011.

Dzeko celebrates new Roma deal

Edin Dzeko celebrated his new contract with a goal, as Roma beat Arezzo 3-1 in a friendly with Diego Perotti and Justin Kluivert also on target.

The Giallorossi played their final pre-season friendly away to Arezzo and used practically a full-strength XI, with Cengiz Under, Nicolò Zaniolo and Perotti supporting hitman Dzeko, fresh from his surprise contract extension.

Sensi finally ready for Inter swap

Stefano Sensi’s move to Inter is ready for completion, with Andrew Gravillon and Marco Sala going to Sassuolo.

The Italy international midfielder and his agent were at the Nerazzurri headquarters this afternoon to work out the final details.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the medical is set for Tuesday or Wednesday and he’ll move on loan for €5m with option to buy at the end of the season for another €25m.

Serie C supremo banned for attack

Viterbese Vice-President Luciano Camilli has been banned from football for five years after assaulting Arezzo patron Giorgio La Cava.

La Cava had just saluted the travelling supporters in the stands ahead of Wednesday’s Serie C promotion playoff between his club and Viterbese when he was reportedly insulted by both home fans and stewards working at the stadium.

Serie C: Arezzo President attacked

There was a shocking incident ahead of the Serie C promotion play-off when Arezzo President Giorgio La Cava was knocked out, apparently by Viterbese fans.

La Cava had just saluted the travelling supporters in the stands ahead of the game when he was reportedly insulted by both home fans and stewards working at the stadium.

As he walked into the tunnel, someone punched the Arezzo President in the back of the head, causing him to briefly lose consciousness.

Radovanovic arrives for Genoa

Chievo midfielder Ivan Radovanovic has arrived to complete his €4m transfer to Genoa.

Multiple sources, including Gianluca Di Marzio’s website and Tuttomercatoweb, reported on Monday morning that Radovanovic checked in for a medical at Il Baluardo clinic in Genoa.

Joining the experienced Serb was former Napoli midfielder Abdallah Basit, a 19-year-old Ghanaian who is set to sign from Serie B side Arezzo.

Fiorentina win final friendly

Fiorentina defeated Arezzo 2-1 in their final pre-season friendly with goals from Valentin Eysseric and Jordan Veretout.

The Viola were supposed to start their Serie A campaign last week, but the trip to Sampdoria was postponed to September 19 after the Ponte Morandi tragedy in Genoa.

That means Stefano Pioli’s side will begin at the Stadio Franchi with Chievo this Sunday.

They began preparations with a 2-1 friendly win over Arezzo, Pioli starting the probable line-up that will take the field in Serie A.
