Frosinone sack Nesta, hire Grosso

Serie B side Frosinone have officially sacked coach Alessandro Nesta and replaced him with fellow 2006 World Cup winner Fabio Grosso.

Nesta had been at the helm since the summer of 2019, but failed to earn promotion to Serie A and was dismissed after winning just one of the last seven games.

A 3-0 home defeat to promotion contenders Lecce at the weekend proved the final straw.

Frosinone announced this afternoon that Nesta has been replaced by his Italy international teammate Grosso.

Serie B: Frosinone game postponed

Frosinone’s upcoming Serie B match against Pisa has been postponed due to a COVID outbreak, just 24 hours after they drew with 14 players unavailable.

Alessandro Nesta’s team had played a 1-1 draw with Pordenone on Sunday with half the 28-man squad out of action due to positive COVID tests.

In theory, Frosinone could’ve played their one ‘bonus’ and requested the game be postponed due to the outbreak.

Nesta’s Frosinone pick up draw despite COVID outbreak

Alessandro Nesta’s Frosinone picked up a draw against Pordenone in Serie B, with only 14 players available and 14 others out of action due to COVID.

The Ciociari managed a home 1-1 draw against Pordenone on Sunday despite having 14 players positive for COVID.

They had 13 players unavailable until this morning, but one more case emerged during the last medical checks undergone before the kick off.

Alessandro Nesta had only 14 players available, but three of them were goalkeepers so he could only make one substitution during the 90 minutes.

Lazzari: 'Lazio must be more clinical'

Lazio winger Manuel Lazzari vowed to be ‘in top shape’ for the new season but admitted the Aquile ‘must be more clinical’ after a 1-0 win against Frosinone.

“This match could have ended with more goals, we hit the woodwork and had chances to score,” Lazzari told Lazio Style Channel.
