Official: Frosinone appoint Nesta

Alessandro Nesta is officially the new Coach of Frosinone, who were relegated from Serie A and will be in the second division next season.

The decision had been in the air and was confirmed by a statement this evening.

He will be presented to the media on Wednesday at 10.30 UK time (09.30 GMT).

Nesta has signed a two-year contract and continues his management career after spells at Miami FC and Serie B outfit Perugia.

Frosinone deny match-fixing allegations

Frosinone released a statement distancing themselves from any involvement in the Spanish match-fixing scandal.

An intercepted telephone call allegedly heard Mattia Mariotti - who is accused of running an illegal gambling ring - and a ‘delegate’ suggest they would meet several Canarini players to discuss the possibility of fixing a match.

Nesta set for Frosinone job

Alessandro Nesta is rumoured to be the new Coach of recently-relegated Frosinone, beating Fabio Grosso to the job.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the two World Cup winners were in the running for the position after Marco Baroni left by mutual consent.

Sportitalia claim this evening that Nesta has won the duel and will be appointed next week when he returns from his vacation in Miami.

The 43-year-old has had two management jobs since his retirement in 2015, at NASL team Miami FC, then at Perugia in Serie B for the 2018-19 season.

Immobile denies illegal betting

Lazio forward Ciro Immobile’s lawyer released a statement categorically denying he is involved in a Spanish match-fixing and betting scandal.

His name was mentioned in leaked wiretapped telephone conversations between two people arrested as part of the Operation Oikos investigation.

It was said by one of the participants that Immobile regularly placed illegal bets.

Immobile and Frosinone in Spain scandal

Ciro Immobile and Frosinone were mentioned in intercepted telephone calls by figures arrested in the Spain match-fixing scandal, it’s reported.

According to newspapers Marca, As, Mundo Deportivo and more, the leaked paperwork from the Operation Oikos investigation included strong links to Italy.

Specifically, Mattia Mariotti – who is accused of running an illegal gambling ring – told Carlos Aranda that Lazio striker Immobile placed regular bets.

Benfica €15m not enough for Pinamonti

Inter have reportedly received 18 offers from Italian and foreign clubs, including €15m from Benfica, for their starlet Andrea Pinamonti.

La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira reports that the Beneamata aren’t willing to sell the forward outright and will only send him out on loan, while they even refused an €8m offer from Parma in January.

Pinamonti risks missing U21 Euros

Andrea Pinamonti is undergoing tests on a knee injury that could well rule him out of the European Under-21 Championship.

The results of the tests will determine if he has to pull out and whether Coach Gigi Di Biagio needs to draft in a replacement.

Italy’s tournament kicks off on Sunday evening against Spain and Pinamonti is one of a few players doing overtime, as he also took part in the Under-20 World Cup.

Pinamonti wants it all for Italy

Inter striker Andrea Pinamonti will participate for Italy in both the U20 World Cup and the European U21 Championships. “I’d love to play in Euro 2020 too.”

The youngster is currently in Poland with the Azzurrini for the U20 World Cup, and they have a semi-final with Ukraine on Tuesday, while he was also named in Luigi Di Biagio’s squad for the U21 European Championships, which start next Sunday.

Official: Baroni to leave Frosinone

Marco Baroni will not be on the Frosinone bench next season after failing to rescue them from relegation.

The decision has been made and a formal announcement arrived this afternoon that they had terminated the contract by mutual consent.

The former Benevento tactician is considering other offers and could well remain in Serie A.

Baroni took over the Frosinone job in late December with their situation already looking very dire.

He oversaw four wins, five draws and 13 defeats.
