Duvan Zapata: 'Never gave up'

Duvan Zapata discussed being marked by his cousin and the last-gasp winner to beat Genoa 2-1. “Atalanta never gave up.”

The Colombian fired in a stoppage-time winner at Marassi off the underside of the bar after Luis Muriel and Domenico Criscito penalties.

“It was a tough game, we needed the three points and never gave up to the very end in our search for the victory,” the striker told DAZN.

Official: Genoa sign Zapata

Genoa have officially signed defender Cristian Zapata following his release from Milan.

It was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Genoa had deposited Zapata’s contract with Lega Serie A.

Although not yet announced by Genoa, the Colombian is understood to have penned a two-year contract.

The 32-year-old made 148 appearances for Milan across seven seasons, having arrived from Udinese in 2012.

Zapata confirms Genoa move

Ex-Milan defender Cristian Zapata has confirmed that he will join Genoa this summer. “I’m very happy to be able to wear such a famous shirt.”

Zapata’s agent Ivan Cordoba confirmed on Sunday that his fellow Colombian had been ‘convinced’ by the project on offer at Genoa.

That was followed by the 32-year-old saying in a video message: “I’m very happy to be able to wear such a famous shirt like that of Genoa.

Zapata announces Milan exit

Cristian Zapata has announced his departure from Milan, paying particular tribute to the club’s ‘simply fantastic’ fans.

Zapata will formally leave Milan once his contract expires on June 30, with Genoa shaping up to be his likeliest destination.

“I want to thank the club for giving me the chance to play for one of the most prestigious teams in the world,” the defender wrote on Instagram.

Zapata 'convinced by Genoa'

Cristian Zapata’s agent claims the out-of-contract defender has chosen Genoa because he was “convinced by their project.”

The former Milan centre-back turned down proposals from Sampdoria, Bologna and Sassuolo, preferring to join the Ligurian club instead.

“Cristian has given up the chance to play for so many other teams and a lot of money because he is convinced by the project that Genoa have,” the Colombian’s agent Ivan Cordoba told the Secolo XIX newspaper.

Barreca en route to Genoa

Antonio Barreca is heading back to Serie A for Genoa just a year after he was sold to Monaco, with a loan spell at Newcastle United completed.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the 24-year-old left-back will complete his transfer to Marassi on Monday.

He only joined Monaco for €10m last summer as part of the deal taking Soualiho Meite to Torino, then was loaned to Newcastle United in January.

The Magpies won’t take up their €9m option to buy, having paid €1.15m for the six-month loan.

Zapata chooses Genoa move

Former Milan defender Cristian Zapata is ready to sign for Genoa, rejecting Sampdoria, Bologna and Sassuolo offers.

According to multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, the Colombia international has made his decision.

He’ll put pen to paper on a two-year contract with Genoa and arrives as a free agent following the expiry of his Milan deal.

The 32-year-old centre-back first arrived in Italy for Udinese in 2005 and remained there save for a brief 2011-12 period with Villarreal.

According to Sky’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan are finally ready to move in the transfer market after appointing Ricky Massara as their sporting director.

Di Marzio explains the Rossoneri told Cutrone’s agent Donato Orgnoni on Friday that they would be prepared to sell the striker if they receive an offer of €25m.

Samp: Zapata to replace Andersen?

Olympique Lyonnais have reportedly bid €18m for Joachim Andersen, who could be replaced at Sampdoria by Cristian Zapata.

According to Eurosport, Lyon have targeted Andersen for next season following his admission that he was ready to leave Samp.

However, it is warned the Blucerchiati are demanding double for the Dane, who still has three years left on his contract and is also a reported target for the likes of Milan and Tottenham Hotspur.
