Serie B: Verona squeeze past Pescara

Hellas Verona will face Cittadella in the Serie B promotion play-off final after their 1-0 victory away to Pescara.

The first leg of this semi-final had ended 0-0 at the Bentegodi, so Verona were feeling the pressure.

As they had finished the regular season higher up the table, Pescara only needed a draw to go through.

However, after Verona goalkeeper Marco Silvestri made a desperate save on Leonardo Mancuso from close range, Gennaro Scognamiglio brought down Samuel Di Carmine for a penalty, which the striker also converted.

Serie B Play-Offs: Benevento collapse

Cittadella earned a shock 3-0 away victory to knock Benevento out of the Serie B promotion play-off semi-finals, 4-2 on aggregate.

The first leg had put the ball firmly in Benevento’s court, as they picked up a 2-1 away victory.

However, that was thrown away by half-time at the Stadio Vigorito, as Davide Diaw struck on a rapid counter-attack, then Giuseppe Panico’s right-foot strike took a deflection off Nicolas Viola to beat Montipe at the near post.

Serie B: Verona win in extra time

Hellas Verona needed extra time to beat 10-man Perugia and set up a Serie B promotion play-off semi-final against Pescara.

Verona broke through just before the break with Samuel Di Carmine’s turn and strike, but despite seeing Christian Kouan sent off for a second bookable offence, Perugia still equalised with a last-gasp Luca Vido penalty.

Giampaolo Pazzini’s last-gasp effort was deflected on to the crossbar, so they had to go to extra time.
