Official: Oddo is new Pescara coach

Massimo Oddo is officially the new coach of Pescara, returning to the club he had already worked with from 2015-17.

The 44-year-old had been in advanced negotiations and Sportitalia stated he was after a two-year contract.

The brief statement announcing his appointment does not mention the length of the contract, though.

Oddo had already taken Pescara to promotion from Serie B to A during his tenure in 2015-17.

Since then, he has gone on to roles at Udinese, Crotone and Perugia.

Oddo in talks for Pescara return

Massimo Oddo could return to the Pescara bench again, as negotiations are in full swing for a two-year contract.

The Delfini narrowly avoided relegation from Serie B last season, needing the play-offs to finish above Perugia.

Funnily enough, Perugia had employed Oddo last term, sacking him twice in January 2020 and again in mid-August.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the 44-year-old is first choice for Pescara and in advanced talks.

However, Sportitalia point out he will only accept if it is a two-year contract.

Fiorentina reportedly insist on bringing Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira back to Serie A.

The former Sampdoria player moved to London in July 2018 for €28.7m and has played 89 times for the Gunner since.

The Uruguay international has been linked with a return to Italy and Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims the Viola are pushing to get the go ahead from Arsenal to negotiate with the player.

Perugia threatened after relegation

Perugia were relegated to Serie C last night after losing the play-off to Pescara, sparking a furious and threatening response from the ultras.

The Grifone won the game 2-1, but as it was 3-3 on aggregate, the tie went through extra time and they lost on penalties.

Around 700 angry fans trapped the squad in the Stadio Curi until 2.25am, with only a police presence keeping the peace.

Bottles and fireworks were thrown at the gates of the arena.

Serie B: Pescara send Perugia down

Pescara have secured their place in Serie B for next season, sending Perugia into Serie C, but it took penalties to decide this relegation play-out.

The Delfini had won the first leg 2-1 on home turf and were beaten by the same result at the Stadio Curi on Friday evening.

Manuel Pucciarelli had put Pescara in front after just 15 minutes, but Perugia turned it around through Christian Kouan’s header on a corner and Federico Melchiorri, again from a set play.

Pescara fought back to beat Perugia 2-1 in the first leg of the Serie B relegation play-off, but there was a very controversial incident in stoppages.

The decider will be on Friday evening at the Stadio Curi.

Perugia took the lead somewhat against the run of play just before half-time, with Kouan tapping in the Falzerano cross from the right.

The Delfini came out fighting for the second half, Masciangelo sprinting forward to set up Galano’s header, followed by a double save on Maniero and Hugo Campagnaro.

Serie B: Trapani appeal rejected

Trapani have officially seen their appeal against a two-point penalty rejected, so the Serie B relegation play-out is between Pescara and Perugia.

The situation had been in some doubt due to the two points docked for financial irregularities.

If they had been handed back, then Trapani would’ve leapfrogged Pescara and sent them straight down to Serie C.

However, with today’s decision, it is confirmed that Trapani are relegated to Serie C with Juve Stabia and Livorno.

Serie B: Sottil new Pescara coach

Andrea Sottil has been named as the new coach of Serie B side Pescara after Nicola Legrottaglie was fired.

The 46-year-old had been out of work since his on-again off-again rapport with Catania finally concluded last summer.

A former Torino, Fiorentina Atalanta, Udinese and Genoa defender, Sottil takes over until the end of the season.

It has been a difficult campaign for Pescara, as Legrottaglie only had 12 games in charge from January 21 to July 6.

Legrottaglie was only promoted to the role in January, having been in charge of their Primavera team.

However, the former Juventus defender oversaw seven defeats and just four wins from his 12 games at the helm.

He is set to be replaced by ex-Atalanta and Udinese stopper Andrea Sottil on a contract until the end of the season, reports Sky Sport Italia.
