Zeman: ‘Totti won’t retire’

Pescara Coach Zdenek Zeman doesn’t think Roma legend Francesco Totti will retire - “I hope to see him on the pitch again”.

The Giallorossi captain hasn’t been offered a new contract, so Sunday’s Genoa game will be his last for the club he has played for all his career.

“I haven’t heard that he wants to leave,” Zeman told Sky after tonight’s win over Palermo.

Serie A Week 37: Did You Know?

Gianluigi Buffon becomes the most successful Serie A player of all time, Roma set a new away record, Napoli improve their own points tally and the most prolific Capocannoniere race since 1949 in Susy Campanale's stats.

Juventus are the first side ever to win the Serie A title six years in a row. The Bianconeri previously had five from 1931-35 and Il Grande Torino from 1943-49 (with break for World War II). In Europe’s top five Leagues, only Olympique Lyonnais have done better with seven from 2001-07.

Only six Juve players won all six titles during this run: Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli, Claudio Marchisio and Stephan Lichtsteiner. In each of those six campaigns, Juve had the best defensive record in the division.

Pescara salvage pride

Pescara salvaged some pride with a 2-0 win over Palermo, but wayward finishing meant it should have been more.

Robert Muric scored on his first Serie A start in the first half, before Alexandru Mitrita doubled the hosts’ advantage in the second half of what was a dead rubber.

Line-ups: Pescara-Palermo

Alberto Cerri leads the line for Pescara, as they look to say goodbye to their fans in style.

The Delfini face Palermo tonight in a match which is of little significance, given both sides have already been relegated to Serie B.

However, Zdenek Zeman’s side have pride to play for in front of their home fans, even though they’re already doomed to finish bottom.

Pescara: Fiorillo; Zampano, Bovo, Fornasier, Biraghi; Verre, Brugman, Memushaj; Muric, Cerri, Caprari

Final Serie A round schedule

The schedule for the final round of the Serie A season has been announced, with Roma-Genoa and Sampdoria-Napoli early on Sunday.

There are only two issues still to be decided in the table, specifically second place and the third side relegated into Serie B.

Roma requested that their game with Genoa be brought forward so that there can be more time afterwards for the salute to Francesco Totti.

Deserving Crotone

The minnows have battled the odds all campaign and deserve another opportunity in Serie A, writes Nick Valerio

Every season, irrespective of division, there will be a club in the relegation places which makes a late surge to secure their status for another year. Against all odds, it’s Crotone who have given themselves a fighting chance, something no one would have predicted.

Davide Nicola’s soldiers have previous. Last year, the Pitagorici were tipped for demotion, but achieved the unthinkable when promoted to Italy’s top flight. This is testament to the Calabrese spirit, their greatest strength which money can’t buy.

Juventus in for Coulibaly

Juventus are reportedly close to a deal for Pescara midfielder Mamadou Coulibaly.

The 18-year-old, who arrived in Italy on a boat as a refugee, has made eight appearances for the Delfini this season, making his debut against Milan.

According to calciomercato.com, the Bianconeri met with Pescara President Daniele Sebastiani yesterday, with Coulibaly very much at the centre of discussions.

Juve prepare Nainggolan assault?

Juventus are reportedly preparing another raid on Roma for €40m-rated Radja Nainggolan this summer.

According to Tuttosport, Juve are “tracking” Nainggolan and will use Miralem Pjanic to “press” his former Roma teammate into making the switch.

However, such a deal seems unlikely from the outset, given the 29-year-old is on record as saying he “hates” the Bianconeri.

Serie A Week 36: Did You Know?

Daniele De Rossi and Luciano Spalletti break taboos, Napoli equal 1949-50 Juventus record, Atalanta in Europe and Inter's worst negative streak in Susy Campanale's stats round-up.

Daniele De Rossi had never before in his career managed to find the net for three Serie A matches in a row.

Luciano Spalletti’s side have scored at least three goals in six of their last nine Serie A games. This was only Spalletti’s second victory over Juventus, along with three draws and 18 defeats. The other success was 3-2 in the Coppa Italia quarter-final in Turin on January 26, 2006.

Juve have won just one of their last seven competitive visits to Roma, 1-0 in May 2014, along with two 1-1 draws and four losses.

Destro double downs Pescara

Mattia Destro got two goals and an accidental punch in the face, as Bologna saw off already-relegated Pescara 3-1.

The striker was reportedly being watched in the stands today by Newcastle United and Watford.

He made an immediate impact, scoring two goals and playing for most of the match with a large bandage on his cracked eyebrow.

Federico Di Francesco also impressed with his delightful flick off the outside of the boot.

Pescara got a consolation goal with Jean-Christophe Bahebeck.
