Zeman facing Pescara sack

Zdenek Zeman risks being sacked by Pescara, after the Delfini were beaten 4-2 by Cesena this evening.

The Delfini have managed just one win in six games across all competitions, and currently sit 14th in Serie B.

Despite taking a 62nd minute lead at Cesena this evening, then going back in front after Lamin Jallow’s equaliser, a late collapse saw Zeman’s side concede in the 81st, 87th and 95th minutes.

Pescara President Daniele Sebastiani threatened to “give everyone a slap” if Zdenek Zeman’s team had lost their 3-3 draw with Ternana.

It was another extraordinary match in Serie B this afternoon, as the Delfini were 2-1 up and then losing 3-2 until a last-gasp equaliser from Luca Valzania.

‘Kownacki could surpass Schick’

Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo claims Dawid Kownacki can be “more complete” than Patrik Schick after the striker’s brace in the Coppa Italia.

Kownacki scored twice in Samp’s 4-1 victory over Pescara on Tuesday, which set up a quarter-final with Lazio and brought the young Pole’s tally to five goals in just six games.

“With two goals in the opening 10 minutes, we got going very quickly,” the Coach said after the match.

Coppa: Kownacki seals Samp rout

Sampdoria swept past Zdenek Zeman’s Pescara with a Dawid Kownacki brace, plus an assist, to set up a Coppa Italia meeting with Fiorentina on December 13.

It had been a rough day for Serie A sides in this tournament, as Cagliari were knocked out by Serie C side Pordenone and SPAL fell to Cittadella.

Samp were determined not to follow the same path and took a 2-0 lead within 10 minutes thanks to 20-year-old Poland international Kownacki.

He scored the first, tapping in from close range, then set up the second for Gaston Ramirez’s header.

Which records could Benevento break?

Benevento have lost their opening 13 Serie A games, breaking the record for worst start in a top five European league.

The newly-promoted side lost to Sassuolo in the last minute yesterday, to break a record set by Manchester United in the 1930-31 season.

Unfortunately for the Streghe, there are still several unwanted records they could accumulate before the end of the season.

The worst ever points total in the Italian top flight was Catania with 12 in the 1983-84 season, but that was in a 16-team Serie A with two points for a win.

Zeman: ‘Immobile isn’t a surprise’

Zdenek Zeman isn’t surprised by Ciro Immobile’s form this season - “with me he scored 28 goals”.

The Lazio striker is top of the Serie A scoring charts, and is expected to lead the line for Italy when they take on Sweden in the first leg of their World Cup play-off tonight.

“For me he’s not a surprise,” Pescara Coach Zeman shrugged, speaking to Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno.

Di Biagio hails Zeman impact

Italy Under-21s boss Luigi Di Biagio has hailed the ‘incredible’ impact of Pescara boss Zdenek Zeman on the Azzurri’s young players.

Zeman played a key role in the development of several Italy internationals, including Ciro Immobile, Marco Verratti and Lorenzo Insigne, and Di Biagio watched his U21s side lose 2-1 to Pescara on Thursday night.

“It was a friendly that allowed us to get minutes under our belts because many of these lads haven’t played for a while,” he said after the match.
