Gilardino turns down Venezia

Venezia confirm they asked Alberto Gilardino to join them, but “he was very honest and didn’t want to go into Serie B.”

The 35-year-old was expected to meet up again with his former Italy teammate Pippo Inzaghi, who is now the Coach of Venezia.

“He has always been very clear and honest with us,” Lagunari director Giorgio Perinetti told Trivenetogoal.

Serie B: Zemanlandia is back

Zdenek Zeman made a typically flamboyant start to the Serie B season, Pescara crushing his former club Foggia 5-1.

It was at Foggia in the 1990s that the original ‘Zemanlandia’ was born, so it was fitting that he should make his seasonal debut against the newly-promoted side.

Stefano Pettinari was the star of the show for Pescara, bagging a hat-trick.

Memushaj to join Benevento

Pescara midfielder Ledian Memushaj is expected to complete his transfer to Benevento this weekend.

Sportitalia claim the deal is practically done and he has already left the Delfini training camp.

It’s not yet clear whether the move is a permanent one off the bat or a loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old Albania international spent his entire career in Italy, playing for the likes of Chievo, Carpi, Lecce and Pescara.

Aquilani: ‘Waiting for offers’

Alberto Aquilani is waiting for offers, having torn up his contract with Pescara - “I have a huge desire to get started again”.

The creative midfielder spent the final six months of last season on loan with Sassuolo, but is now a free agent after terminating his contract with the Delfini.

“I still had two years on my Pescara contract but I preferred it this way,” Aquiline told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I wanted to play, and I’d have done it but it’s better to wait. I’m living with serenity, without anxiety.

‘I failed last season’ – Zeman

Pescara boss Zdenek Zeman admits he failed to spark a response from his players last season.

The experienced Coach succeeded Massimo Oddo in February with the Delfini already well adrift at the bottom of Serie A.

Despite winning his first match against Genoa 5-0 and overseeing a marginal improvement in results, Zeman was unable to prevent the club from making an immediate return to Serie B.

“Last year I didn’t succeed in changing the mentality of the team,” the 70-year-old conceded.

Happy birthday, Max Allegri

Today marks the 50th birthday of Juventus Coach and former Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri.

Born in Livorno, Tuscany, Allegri began his playing career as a midfielder with Cuoio Pelli Juventus and his hometown club, as well as Pisa and Pavia.

In 1991 he made the move to Pescara, with the Delfini winning promotion to Serie A in 1992.

Despite the fact Pescara finished bottom of Serie A in that season, Allegri scored 12 league goals and earned himself a move to Cagliari.
