Albertini: 'Italy will beat COVID-19'

Former Milan hero Demetrio Albertini has said Italy is currently “playing one of the most important matches in history” and will eventually beat the COVID-19.

The Coronavirus outbreak has painted a horrifying picture in Italy and the measures taken has left the country at a standstill.

Albertini was capped 79 times by Italy during his illustrious career - including spells at Lazio, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Joaquin Peiró, the big game player

Yesterday, Internazionale released a statement saying that they were deeply saddened by the passing of one of Helenio Herrera’s Grande Inter players. Joaquin Peiró is a name that will live forever in the hearts of the Inter faithful despite his time there only lasting two seasons. He was a great player for so many other clubs, especially in Spain, but his time in Italy and especially at San Siro saw him exalted as one of the club’s most treasured players.

Grande Inter forward Peiro' dies

Former Inter, Torino and Roma player Joaquin Peiró has died at the age of 84. He was most famous as a member of Helenio Herrera’s Grande Inter side.

The Spanish forward cemented his place in Nerazzurri history by scoring against Liverpool in the European Cup semi-final in 1965, when he snuck up on goalkeeper Tommy Lawrence and intercepted a clearance.

He spent a good chunk of his career in Italy, joining Torino in 1962, moving to Inter two years later and then Roma from 1966-70.

Report: Godin could leave Inter

Diego Godin arrived at Inter last summer but according to reports in Italy and Spain, the Uruguayan could be ready to leave after only one season.

The former Atletico Madrid defender struggled to settle under Antonio Conte at San Siro and after only 16 appearances in Serie A, Tuttosport writes that the defender could be leaving the Nerazzurri this summer.

After being a vital member under Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropoletano, winning the Copa del Rey in 2012-13, La Liga in 2013-14 and picking up two Europa League trophies in 2011-12 and 2017-18.

Lozano linked with Atletico

Hirving Lozano has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid this summer, as he is currently struggling to claim a place at Napoli under Gennaro Gattuso.

The Mexico international has played 16 games and contributed two goals in Serie A since his move from PSV Eindhoven last summer.

He was a regular under former coach Carlo Ancelotti but has struggled to establish himself as a first team player under the new reign of Gattuso.

Kalinic: 'I must continue like this'

Nikola Kalinic wrote the headlines when Roma picked up three points in a 4-3 win over Cagliari and stressed that he's “always ready to play”.

Kalinic started his second game this campaign and contributed his first two goals in Serie A 2019-20, when his brace made him “very happy” to have helped his teammates.

“I always work for the team; we are 11 players and I’m not alone. We created many opportunities and I scored two goals. I’m very happy, I must continue like this.”

Kalinic: 'Happy at Roma'

Nikola Kalinic said he is “happy” at Roma after scoring his first goals for the club in today’s 4-3 victory away to Cagliari.

The centre-forward bagged a brace, his first in Serie A since 2017, and also set up Justin Kluivert with an assist.

“I played the way I always do, trying to give 100 per cent for the team,” the Croatia international told Sky Sport Italia.

CL: Dortmund and Atleti win first legs

Borussia Dortmund beat PSG 2-1 with an Erling Haaland brace, while Atletico Madrid’s early Saul Niguez tap-in proved enough to defeat Liverpool 1-0.

The first legs of the Champions League Round of 16 were played this evening with two home wins.

Saul Niguez reacted quicker than anyone when a Koke corner bounced off Fabinho into the six-yard box, giving Atleti the lead within five minutes at the Wanda Metropolitano.
