Godin: Conte like Simeone

Diego Godin believes Inter and Antonio Conte share “many things” with Diego Simeone and his title-winning Atletico Madrid side of 2013-14.

Godin was a key member of Simeone’s Atleti between 2010 and 2019, helping them win La Liga and two Europa Leagues, as well as reach two Champions League Finals.

The defender joined Inter over the summer, and he suggested Conte’s presence helped him make his mind up.

“I see many things in this Inter that remind me of the Atletico side who won La Liga in 2013-14,” he told DAZN.

Simeone: Sarri & I need time

Diego Simeone says he and Maurizio Sarri “need time” to rebuild Atletico Madrid and Juventus and is wary of facing “goal animal” Cristiano Ronaldo again.

The two sides are very different from their Round-of-16 tie last season as Juve replaced Max Allegri with the more modern Maurizio Sarri, while Simeone made several changes to his squad.

“Allegri was at Juve for five years, Sarri’s been there for two months. Adaptation takes time, and the same applies us,” Cholo said at a Press conference.

Probable line-ups: Atleti-Juve

Federico Bernardeschi is set to replace Douglas Costa in Juventus’ attack against Atletico Madrid this evening.

Costa faces several weeks out with a thigh injury, so Bernardeschi should slot straight into the right of Juve’s front three, alongside Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Elsewhere, it seems to be a case of as you were for Juve, with Danilo and Matthijs de Ligt continuing to deputise for Mattia De Sciglio and Giorgio Chiellini at the back.

'Juve still adjusting to Sarri'

Leonardo Bonucci admits Juventus are still acclimatising to Maurizio Sarri’s tactics as they visit Atletico Madrid. “It’s the opposite of what we’re used to.”

Their Champions League campaign kicks off at the Wanda Metropolitano at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

“It’ll be an important test and the start of a great journey, one we begin with enthusiasm and energy,” assured the defender in his Press conference.

Sarri: 'Juve and 10-12 teams'

Maurizio Sarri wants Juventus to “enjoy our football” against Atletico Madrid. “There are 10-12 Champions League teams with the same resources as us.”

It kicks off on Wednesday at the Wanda Metropolitano at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

“Miralem Pjanic is available, he trained regularly with the group today and we’ll see if he starts or not,” said the Coach in a Press conference.

Juve won the last eight Serie A titles in a row, but see the Champions League as something of an obsession.

Juve ultras boycott Madrid game

Juventus ultras are abandoning the Champions League trip to Atletico Madrid in protest at recent arrests of group leaders.

The Bianconeri begin their tournament tomorrow evening at the Wanda Metropolitano, but won’t have as many fans attending as expected.

According to Tuttosport, those ultras who had bought tickets to the away fixture have decided to stay home and give up on the expensive journey as part of their protest against the club.

Juve: Pjanic fit for Atleti

Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic has been passed fit to face Atletico Madrid tomorrow evening.

Pjanic limped off during Juve’s 0-0 draw with Fiorentina on Saturday and was a doubt for the trip to Atleti.

However, the Bosnian was confirmed as travelling with the squad to Madrid, where the Bianconeri open their account in this season’s Champions League.

On the other hand, the same cannot be said for injured trio Giorgio Chiellini, Douglas Costa and Mattia De Sciglio.

Koke: Juve not about revenge

Koke insists revenge will not be on Atletico Madrid’s minds against Juventus, even if “we can only hope Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t have his best game.”

Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to not only beat Atleti 3-0 in the Champions League Round of 16 last season but also swing the tie in Juve’s favour after they lost the first leg 2-0.

The two sides face off again in the 2019-20 group stage, with Koke’s team playing host to the Bianconeri tomorrow night.

“It’s not about revenge,” the midfielder told Marca.

Juve suffer Costa blow

Juventus will be without Douglas Costa for the next two weeks, but Miralem Pjanic should be fit to face Atletico Madrid.

Costa and Pjanic both limped off during Juve’s 0-0 draw with Fiorentina on Saturday.

The Bianconeri have now confirmed in a medical report that the winger suffered “a medium-grade thigh injury”.

It adds he will be reassessed in two weeks, possibly ruling him out of the Derby d’Italia with Inter on October 6.

Sarri: 'Juve did well to get a draw'

Maurizio Sarri felt Juventus ought to be pleased with a draw against Fiorentina, because amid injuries “a team with less personality would’ve lost.”

The Coach made his first competitive appearance on the touchline after recovering from pneumonia, as he watched their wins over Parma and Napoli from afar.
