Icardi: 'Show Argentina my best'

Inter hitman Mauro Icardi shrugs off criticism and wants to “show the people of Argentina the best side of me.”

The 25-year-old striker has shaken off a muscular problem and yesterday resumed full training with the Albiceleste in Los Angeles.

“I will always be available for selection and I want to set a good example with the Argentina squad,” he told TyC Sports.

Icardi was largely ignored by previous Coaches, despite banging in 110 goals in 192 Serie A games.

Maxi Lopez: Lautaro over Icardi…

Maxi Lopez named Lautaro Martinez and ignored Mauro Icardi when he was asked about Argentina’s starting striker at the World Cup.

Lopez and Icardi were involved in a highly-publicised love triangle with Wanda Nara, who left the Udinese striker for the Inter captain, and the 33-year-old appeared to take a swipe at his fellow Argentine.

“I kept away from gossip more than the other parties involved,” he told La Stampa.

“My release has always been football, and this story also made me grow.

Much ado about Mauro

Mauro Icardi has had his fair share of controversy and made some bad decisions, but Richard Hall sees beyond that to a potential Inter legend.

Mauro Icardi offers up the perception that he is the stereotypical modern-day footballer due to a plethora of items, images and angles he allows others to see, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. He has not been without controversy, but his response to Real Madrid’s recent interest is another glimpse into his personality. The words that if Real called he would “not answer the phone” will no doubt please many in Milan, and even though his wife and agent will not rule it out, it seems he is happy at the club, but more importantly in the city.

Line-ups: Crotone-Udinese

Maxi Lopez returns to lead the line for Udinese, as they look to make up for back-to-back Serie A defeats at Crotone.

The Argentinian striker didn’t play in the 1-0 defeat to Napoli in Week 14, but his four goals in the Coppa Italia against Perugia appear to have convinced Massimo Oddo.

The hosts go with a 4-4-2 shape, with Aleksandar Tonev and Marcello Trotta leading the line.

Marco Tumminello, Oliver Kragl and Ante Budimir are all unavailable, as the Squali seek to avoid a fourth Serie A defeat in a row.

Coppa: Udinese win 8-3 thriller

Udinese swept through to the Coppa Italia Round of 16 against Napoli after a truly spectacular 8-3 victory over Serie B outfit Perugia.

It was Coach Massimo Oddo’s first win at the helm, having replaced Gigi Del Neri for the 1-0 Serie A loss to Napoli on Sunday.

Neutrals were certainly not left bored at the Dacia Arena, as the two teams traded blows and goals, including four for Maxi Lopez.

Danilo’s header had opened the scoring and Maxi Lopez converted two penalties, while Kevin Lasagna turned in a left-foot strike.

Maxi Lopez sues Wanda Nara

Wanda Nara, Inter striker Mauro Icardi's wife, is being sued by her ex-husband – Udinese forward Maxi Lopez – for publishing his phone number online.

The pair went through a bitter divorce after she started dating and eventually married Icardi, who had been Maxi Lopez’s friend and teammate at Sampdoria.

Now Maxi Lopez has taken legal action against Wanda, claiming she published his phone number and other personal details on Twitter and Facebook as an act of “revenge” and to “damage” his reputation.

Lopez: ‘I’ll meet Icardi’

Maxi Lopez says he’ll meet Mauro Icardi one day but “it doesn’t keep me up at night”.

The pair were teammates at Sampdoria, but fell out when Lopez’s ex-wife Wanda Nara began a relationship with the now Inter captain.

Now at Udinese, the veteran has continually refused to shake Icardi’s hand before matches, but he’s said he will meet with his former friend one day.

“I’ve never given too much weight to this issue,” Lopez told Messaggero Veneto when asked about Wanda.

Serie A Team of Week 7

With Napoli sitting solo at the summit of Serie A, Dave Taylor selects his best XI from Week 7’s action.

Antonio Mirante [Bologna]

The former Italian international won the points for the visitors, especially in the second half when he pulled off a miracle save from Andrey Galabinov. He then made a brilliant double stop first from Raffaele Palladino then a Miguel Veloso rocket. Brilliant.

Kalidou Koulibaly [Napoli]
