Maxi: 'It'll be a wonderful Christmas'

Catania striker Maxi Lopez believes he will be able to enjoy Christmas with his family now after Sunday's 1-0 victory over Brescia in Serie A.

The Argentine scored the winner in the 32nd minute, lifting his side to a respectable 12th place at the start of the annual winter break.

Maxi's goal was extra special as it came just a day after the birth of his second child Costantino.

"It will be a beautiful Christmas because of my son, the victory and because we can think carefully about the next three matches," he said.

Catania will keep Maxi Lopez

Catania transfer chief Pietro Lo Monaco has had enough of the Maxi Lopez transfer rumours. "He's not moving."

The Argentine was thought to be a January target for Juventus, amongst others, and the Sicilian club initially seemed willing to listen to offers.

But after being questioned on the subject yet again, Lo Monaco has suggested that the striker is going nowhere.

"Let's end this Maxi Lopez story, it's just stupid," the official said. "He is not moving away from Catania.

'Juve face competition for Maxi'

Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta admits that signing a player of Maxi Lopez's calibre will not be easy, especially amid great competition.

The 26-year-old Argentine striker is rumoured to be one of Juventus' top transfer targets in the January transfer window, although Marotta is remaining coy.

Interviewed on Sky Italia, he said: "We aren't the only ones who like him. But there has been no contact with Catania and I don't think there will be any soon.

'Beat Juve first, join them later'

Catania's Maxi Lopez has admitted that he'd like to join Juventus, but insists he's focused on beating the Old Lady this Sunday.

The Argentine has been talked about as a possible January transfer target for the Bianconeri given Amauri's problems in Turin.

Although he admits that he'd love to move to a big club, his priority is getting three points this weekend.

"It's just an important game for me," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "You just have to look at the table and Juventus' history to recognise that.
