Stefano Pioli has emerged as a leading candidate for the Napoli job should he be dismissed from Milan in the summer, reports detail.

The Partenopei have been looking around for a new long-term coach for a while now and their defeat to Empoli on Saturday has confirmed to Aurelio De Laurentiis that Francesco Calzona isn’t suitable to stay, prompting him to intensify the search.

In recent weeks, multiple coaches have been floated as possible options for Napoli including Antonio Conte, Gian Piero Gasperini and Vincenzo Italiano, but now gathering clouds at Milan could shake up the situation ahead of the summer.

Pioli interest

As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, De Laurentiis is keeping a close eye on Pioli’s position at Milan, interested in bringing the Italian tactician to Napoli in the summer should changes be made by the Rossoneri.

The 58-year-old coach fits all the conditions and stands of De Laurentiis, who is now considering him to be one of the leading candidates, likely ahead of Gasperini and Italiano, the latter of whom could end up at Bologna if Thiago Motta goes to Juventus.
