Eto'o risks ban for 'Zidane' headbutt

Samuel Eto'o risks a long ban after the Inter striker was caught on camera head-butting Cesar in a Zinedine Zidane-Marco Materazzi style.

The off the ball incident occurred 38 minutes into today's Serie A match against Chievo.

The two players had argued a few moments earlier and Eto'o opted to take 'revenge' by running towards him to head-butt Cesar in the chest.

The referee, assistants and fourth official at the Stadio Bentegodi did not see the incident, but it was caught on camera.

Benitez: 'Eto'o was provoked'

Rafa Benitez insists Inter's only problems are down to injuries and Samuel Eto'o was provoked. “He lost control.”

The 2-1 defeat at Chievo was a disaster for the Nerazzurri, who are now nine points off leaders Milan.

It could be much worse, though, as Eto'o was caught on camera head-butting Bostjan Cesar in the chest.

In an incident very similar to Zinedine Zidane's 2006 World Cup Final attack on Marco Materazzi, the off-the-ball incident was not spotted by the officials.

Cesar: 'Eto'o didn't even apologise'

Bostjan Cesar says “Samuel Eto'o did not even apologise” after head-butting him in the chest in scenes reminiscent of the 2006 World Cup Final.

During the first half of Inter's 2-1 defeat at Chievo, Eto'o got into a row with the defender, claiming he had been hit on the face by a trailing arm.

The Cameroon striker then reacted a few moments later by head-butting Cesar in the chest, unseen by the officials.

“Eto'o is a great player, but I think this sort of behaviour simply should not happen,” said the defender.

Zanetti and Eto'o: 'Inter will rise again'

Javier Zanetti and Samuel Eto'o have assured fans that “Inter will emerge with our heads held high.”

The Nerazzurri are without a Serie A win in four rounds – the first time they've had such a poor streak since 2004.

The 2-1 at Chievo represented their second consecutive defeat after the Milan derby, something that hadn't happened since February 2006.

“Our squad is very strong and we have character, so we will emerge from this difficult time with our heads held high,” assured captain Zanetti on Inter Channel.

Diamanti: 'Eto'o confessed to me'

Alessandro Diamanti claims Samuel Eto'o confessed “it wasn't a penalty because he slipped.”

Brescia were leading 1-0 at San Siro last night before Eto'o fell under a Gaetano Berardi challenge for a dubious spot-kick.

“It is an important point for us, even if the Nerazzurri's equaliser came from a non-existent penalty,” said Diamanti of the 1-1 draw.

“Eto'o told me at the end of the game that he had slipped on the ball and not because of a foul.”

The Milito-Eto'o conundrum

Diego Milito's potential inclusion in the Brescia match-day squad represents a new challenge for Rafa Benitez, one that could make or break the Coach's Inter career. Rob Paton writes

Diego Milito's brief cameo at Tottenham on Tuesday evening announced two things very publicly to the Nerazzurri fans and critics. The first is that the No 22 is looking sharp and, secondly, Samuel Eto'o looks set to retain a central striker position.

Milito came on for Goran Pandev with 20 minutes remaining and took a position along the final line of attack next to Eto'o and Philippe Coutinho. Crucially, though, Benitez left Eto'o in a central striking role.

Eto'o: 'I nearly joined Roma'

Inter striker Samuel Eto'o claims he was very close to signing for Roma two years ago only for the deal to fall through.

The 29-year-old Cameroon international is widely regarded as the best centre-forward in the world.

He has scored 14 goals already this season in Serie A and the Champions League.

Appearing on an Italian TV show, Eto'o was asked by a Roma supporting presenter when he will leave Inter and play alongside Francesco Totti.

Mourinho changed me, says Eto'o

Samuel Eto'o claims Jose Mourinho's decision to play him on the wing last season changed his career, even though he has since returned to the centre-forward position.

The Cameroon international striker was asked to become an auxiliary full-back, especially in Inter's important Champions League matches.

"When I am older, I would like to coach," Eto'o told French TV.

"Mourinho convinced me to play on the wing saying that we would win the Champions League.
