Berlusconi: New San Siro 'absurd'

Silvio Berlusconi has branded plans for a new San Siro ‘absurd’ and expressed his belief that Suso would be ‘extraordinary’ as Milan’s No 10.

Milan and Inter have submitted joint-plans for a new, 60,000-seated stadium to replace San Siro, but Berlusconi is appalled at the idea.

“I’m absolutely against it, it’s nonsense,” the former Rossoneri owner told reporters in Lugano.

Giampaolo's very modern Milan

Marco Giampaolo’s Milan are expected to follow the 4-3-1-2 pattern, as Sam Wilson predicts what fans will see from the new-look Rossoneri.

It is a transformational time for Milan with huge changes throughout the club, although new Coach Marco Giampaolo might find himself repurposing existing players for the most part. The former Sampdoria boss steps in for Gennaro Gattuso, while Paolo Maldini, Zvonimir Boban and Ricky Massara take control of the directorial roles.

Berlusconi: 'Milan didn't hire professionals'

Silvio Berlusconi has blamed not Yonghong Li, but Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli for Milan’s failure. “I thought he’d hire real professionals.”

The brief spell under the Chinese businessman was disastrous, because he failed to keep up with loan repayments and the club was effectively repossessed by US hedge fund Elliott Management.

Berlusconi and Galliani: 'Giampaolo in 2016'

Former Milan chiefs Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani insist they had chosen Coach Marco Giampaolo in 2016 rather than Vincenzo Montella.

They ran the club for over 30 years, before a brief spell under Yonghong Li and since last April Elliott Management.

“I had opted for Giampaolo in the summer of 2016, when we were sharing our ideas with one of the many Chinese groups in negotiations to buy the club,” former CEO Galliani told Sky Sport Italia.

The Corriere dello Sport analysed Milan’s finances and warned they’ll reach June 30 running at a €100m loss for this year alone, €413m over five years.

Milan dragged into modernity

Rather than downsizing of ambitions, fans should see the Ivan Gazidis revamp as dragging Milan into becoming a modern football club, writes Richard Hall.

A new era is emerging for the Rossoneri and it doesn’t include Gennaro Gattuso or Leonardo. Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has moved on behalf of Elliott Management to make sure the club operate with a new philosophy, even if it is based out of necessity. There will be no more big transfer fees, there will be a concerted effort to balance the books and there will be a focus on youth. Whilst this might be an unfortunate situation for the red and black half of the city, it could just perhaps be the making of them.

Berlusconi: 'I switch Milan off'

Former President Silvio Berlusconi “disagrees” with the current Milan tactical set-up. “I turn their games off after 10 minutes.”

Berlusconi was club patron for 30 years until selling up to Yonghong Li, but he is back in football at the helm of Serie C outfit Monza.

However, he still keeps a close eye on his old club and their current performances.

“I disagree with the current tactic of using one striker rather than two, especially behind there are such good shots from distance.

Ronaldo: 'Berlusconi's tactical advice...'

Ronaldo revealed how former Milan President Silvio Berlusconi would give odd tactical instructions to the team. “It’s so easy to score from a corner!”

The Brazilian striker spoke to the Financial Times newspaper and discussed the hands-on approach that Berlusconi took to running the club.

This included regularly entering the dressing room before and after games, while trying to show his knowledge of the sport.

“Why did you never make a goal from the corner? It’s so easy,” Ronaldo claimed Berlusconi said.
