FIFA pushes for 48-team World Cup

FIFA has confirmed plans to expand the 2022 World Cup to 48 teams, providing a suitable co-host can be found.

The idea has been in the works for some time, although it was not expected to bear fruition until 2026, when the United States, Canada and Mexico host the competition.

Nonetheless, AFP quotes FIFA President Gianni Infantino as saying at a Press conference: “You have in front of you a happy FIFA President.

“I am always happy but especially today because we have taken some important decisions.

Benatia has Allegri doubts

Medhi Benatia admits he was no longer happy at Juventus and that ‘I don’t know if Max Allegri is the right Coach’ to win them the Champions League.

Benatia moved to Qatari side Al-Duhail in January after he lost his place in Juve’s defence to Leonardo Bonucci, who returned from Milan last summer.

“When I went to Dubai on holiday in December, I decided I didn’t want to stay at Juve,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Reports: Milan scout Qatari ace

Milan reportedly sent scouts to watch Qatar ace Almoez Ali at the Asian Cup ahead of a possible summer swoop.

La Repubblica and Qatari daily Gulf News spotted Milan scouts in attendance to watch Ali score a record-breaking nine goals, which fired the hosts to Asian Cup glory last week.

“Almoez Ali is an excellent player who can play abroad. I think Almoez is agile. He moves fast,” former Inter boss Jose Mourinho told beIN Sports in his role as an analyst.

Report: Benatia lands for Al-Duhail

Medhi Benatia has reportedly landed in Qatar for his medical with Al-Duhail ahead of his proposed transfer from Juventus.

According to Tuttosport, Benatia will still become an Al-Duhail player despite Juve potentially losing Leonardo Bonucci for a month.

The Bianconeri are expected to receive €10m for the 31-year-old and replace him with the returning Martin Caceres.

Caceres in, Benatia out

Martin Caceres has joined Juventus for the third time after his Lazio spell, while Medhi Benatia will sign for Al-Duhail in Qatar.

Multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia all give the same details, that Caceres has already signed the contract.

He will undergo a medical tomorrow and the announcement should arrive then, but the deal is essentially done.

Lazio will be paid €600,000 to release the Uruguay international, who is on his way to Turin this evening.

Benatia will cost €10m

Juventus would consider selling Medhi Benatia for €10m, with reports of offers from Al Duhail, Al-Ittihad and Fulham.

Multiple sources said today that Benatia’s agent met with Juve and was told he could not make a move to Arsenal or Olympique Marseille.

This evening, Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia both suggest they’d be prepared to reconsider for €10m.

The second leg of the Copa Libertadores final was meant to take place at the weekend, but it was postponed on Saturday due to serious crowd trouble.

Rodriguez out of Swiss friendly

Milan full-back Ricardo Rodriguez has been ruled out of Switzerland’s game with Qatar due to a muscular problem.

He is not even on the bench for this evening’s friendly after feeling a twinge during training.

According to the Swiss reports, it is not a serious issue and Rodriguez hopes to be back in action for the Nations League clash with Belgium on Sunday.

It is just the latest in a long line of injuries for Milan, who recently lost Lucas Biglia, Mateo Musacchio, Mattia Caldara and Giacomo Bonaventura.
