Totti & Vialli are Italy ambassadors

Former Italy stars Francesco Totti and Gianluca Vialli will be the Azzurri’s ambassadors at Euro 2020.

The FIGC announced on Wednesday that Totti would be an ambassador for the city of Rome, which will host four games at the continent-wide tournament.

Vialli, on the other hand, will represent volunteers in the Italian capital during the competition.

Totti scored nine goals in 58 caps for Italy, winning the 2006 World Cup, while Vialli played for La Nazionale at three major tournaments between 1985 and 1992.

'Roma not involved in official's arrest'

Prosecutor Paolo Ielo has assured that Roma and their new stadium project are not linked to the arrest of councillor Marcello De Vito.

The Stadio della Roma project risked a further delay on Wednesday, when De Vito – the President of Rome city council’s assembly, described as a deputy to mayor Virginia Raggi – was arrested on corruption charges.

However, Ielo told reporters: “Nothing has changed [with regards to the stadium], but it’s something we’re not interested in right now.

Sarri or Gasp for Roma?

Roma have reportedly narrowed their list of managerial candidates down to Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri and Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini.

According to the likes of Corriere dello Sport and Sport Mediaset, Sarri remains the preferred choice for Roma President James Pallotta.

However, the Giallorossi could find negotiations difficult for the ex-Napoli Coach, even if he is sacked by Chelsea, given the ongoing saga of Antonio Conte’s dismissal from last summer.

Roma legend Carlo Mazzone believes caretaker manager Claudio Ranieri “has everything it takes to bring this team to fourth place.”

The Giallorossi are currently in fifth, four points adrift of fourth-placed Milan and the Champions League spots.

“I hope that Roma can recover soon, as I continue to follow their progress with affection, purely as a fan,” former Coach Mazzone told Radio Centro Suono Sport.

“Ranieri was my player, one of my lads, and has everything it takes to bring this Roma team to fourth place.”

There are another two games after that, with Empoli and Genoa, before the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final at Arsenal on April 11.
