Roma thugs identified

Italian media have identified the two Roma ultras arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide after leaving a Liverpool fan in critical condition.

According to the Corriere della Sera newspaper, the pair under arrest are 21-year-old Filippo Lombardi and 29-year-old Daniele Sciuscio.

The Italian police who were accompanying the Roma fans during the trip to Liverpool apparently recognised them during the attack and collaborated with the local authorities to capture them inside Anfield.

Arsenal will target Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan if they hire Luis Enrique, it’s reported, joining Chelsea and Manchester United in the race.

The Belgium international only recently signed a new contract with the Giallorossi, despite massive offers from the Premier League and within Serie A at Inter.

According to Sun Sport, Arsenal will focus on tempting Nainggolan to London if Luis Enrique is chosen to replace Arsene Wenger next season.

He turns 30 next month and his future could well depend on the Financial Fair Play situation at Roma.

On This Day: Roma 3-0 Dundee United

On this day in 1984, Roma completed a European comeback by beating Dundee United 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Giallorossi had lost 2-0 at Tannadice in a bad-tempered match, with Bruno Conti claiming he had been insulted by Arabs manager Jim McLean.

After the match Roma President Dino Viola suggested, perhaps jokingly, that the Scottish side must have been on drugs.

There was therefore a fiery atmosphere for the return leg, with Roberto Pruzzo scoring two in quick succession to level the tie within the first 40 minutes.

‘Di Francesco let Roma down’

Ex-England defender Rio Ferdinand claims Eusebio Di Francesco ‘let Roma down’ and questioned whether the Coach had even watched Liverpool play.

Not holding back in his analysis of Roma’s 5-2 defeat to Liverpool during Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg, Ferdinand felt Di Francesco was ‘fully responsible’ for the thrashing and set the Giallorossi up ’almost to lose’.

“I think the Roma manager has to take full responsibility for the result,” the former Manchester United man told BT Sport.
