Roma call Chelsea for Pedro

Roma have contacted Chelsea to ask after Pedro Rodriguez, claim Sky Sport Italia, as he’ll be a free agent in June and should be available for relatively little.

The 32-year-old Spaniard is coming to the end of his current contract at Stamford Bridge.

He has made only 12 competitive appearances so far this season, contributing one goal and two assists.

Pedro was purchased from Barcelona in the summer of 2015 for €27m.

Roma are going through an injury crisis at the moment and need reinforcements in various attacking areas.

Spurs told no Piatek loan

Tottenham Hotspur want Krzysztof Piatek to replace Harry Kane, but Milan are refusing to release him on loan, demanding €30m.

The Poland international was only signed from Genoa a year ago for €35m and has dropped down the pecking order in the last couple of weeks.

This is because Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived as a free agent and coach Stefano Pioli moved to a 4-4-2 system, so Rafael Leao or Ante Rebic are preferred strike partners.

Friedkin Group complete due diligence

The Friedkin Group’s takeover of Roma moved one step closer as it’s reported the American company has completed due diligence of the club’s accounts.

The Texan company has been in talks about taking over the club for the last several months, and have been in the process of completing due diligence on the club’s financial accounts.

Il Tempo reports that due diligence has now been completed, with no problems.

This now means that the path is clear for the group to take control of the Giallorossi.

Roma medical for Ibanez

Roger Ibanez is having his medical tests with Roma this morning, as Atalanta make another healthy profit on a player who barely featured.

The 21-year-old centre-back flew in from Brazil yesterday and was in the stands for the 1-1 Derby della Capitale draw with Lazio.

Atalanta signed him from Fluminense for just under €4m a year ago, but he only made two very brief substitute appearances for a total 20 minutes on the pitch.

Capital gains

The Derby della Capitale ended in a draw, so Giancarlo Rinaldi believes both Roma and Lazio can take positives from the performance as well as a point each.

The highways and byways of Italian football are littered with the form books which pundits reckon we are best to throw out of the window ahead of every derby. However, we students of Calcio history know exactly which one the big four cross-city clashes in Serie A produces the highest percentage of draws. In Rome - more than Turin, Genoa or Milan - we have learned down the years that our post-match analysis will often be in assessing who the moral victors were when the honours on the field of play have ended up even.

Roma right-back Davide Santon says there is regret at not winning the Rome derby, “the game was dominated by Roma.”

The second Derby della Capitale of the season ended in another draw, the first time both derbies have finished in a stalemate since the 2002-03 season.

Santon believes that the Giallorossi should’ve won the game.

“I think the game was dominated by Roma, we had prepared for the match well,” Santon told Sky Sport Italia.
