The 2005-06 Serie A season will ultimately be remembered for one thing: Calciopoli. The investigation exposed a web of contacts and undue influence, with Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi sitting at the centre of it.

Calciopoli only came to light in May 2006, at a time when Juve should have been celebrating the Scudetto. Instead they were relegated to Serie B and had two titles stripped from their record, with the fallout from that decision still causing controversy today.

Livorno to close their doors?

Livorno will cease to exist on June 30 if their planned takeover does not go through, President Aldo Spinelli has warned.

Spinelli sold Livorno to Dutch businessman Majd Yousif on February 6, which appeared to mark the end of his two-decade-long tenure as the club’s owner.

However, the deal coincided with the outbreak of coronavirus in Italy and the 80-year-old claims he has not heard from Yousif since.

“I haven’t heard anything from Yousif,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

Milan sacrifice trio for Tonali

Milan are reportedly prepared to sacrifice three youth academy products in order to get €50m-rated Sandro Tonali from Brescia next season.

Tonali has attracted interest from Europe’s top clubs, including Juventus, Inter, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

The midfielder confessed he has always been a Milan supporter, so the Rossoneri hope to get the upper hand with a complex transfer proposal.

Diamanti: 'It requires sacrifice and patience'

Western United hero Alessandro Diamanti wrote a message to encourage fans to “stay at home” after the Australian A-League suspended play.

The Australian Football Association (FFA) announced today that they have suspended the 2019-20 season of the Hyundai A-League with immediate effect.

The decision comes after a serious of measures introduced by the FFA in the battle against COVID-19 and the clubs have unanimously supported the decision.

Serie B: Livorno hire Filippini

Serie B side Livorno announced they have fired coach Roberto Breda and appointed former Brescia and Lazio winger Antonio Filippini.

The decision was made following a 1-0 defeat in the Tuscan Derby with Pisa, which left them rock bottom of the table.

It’s the second time Breda has been sacked by Livorno this season, as he had already been dismissed on December 9 only to be recalled on February 3.

The comeback didn’t work either, so he’s been fired again and replaced by Filippini.

Spinelli: 'I will sponsor Livorno'

Aldo Spinelli has revealed that he will still sponsor Livorno next year and asks for forgiveness after another loss against Cosenza on Sunday.

The 80-year-old oversaw his last home game as President and shouldered the blame for the situation at the Amaranto before stepping aside.

The President has decided to sell the club and will leave his position after 21 years at the Armando Picchi.

After the 3-0 defeat to Cosenza, thy are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, 12 points away from the play-out places in Serie B.

Spinelli era over in Livorno

Aldo Spinelli has sold Livorno to the Dutch entrepreneur Majd Yousif and ended a 21-year long adventure as patron for the Serie B side.

The Livorno owner reportedly met Yousif, the President of Sharengo Free Mobility, in Genoa and agreed on a sale of the Amaranto.

Calcio e Finanza reports that their respective lawyers will carry out all the legal procedures and formalise the agreement.

Sharengo Free Mobility produces electric minicars and are strongly connected to the Chinese group Geely Motor, the owner of the Volvo brand.

Serie B: Spinelli to sell Livorno

President Aldo Spinelli is on the verge of selling Livorno after 21 years, with the Serie B club going to businessman Majd Yousif.

A preliminary contract has been signed and the takeover should be completed over the next few days.

Spinelli turned 80 last month and is therefore preparing his retirement after two decades in charge of the Tuscan side.

Livorno have fallen on hard times, as they are currently in the Serie B relegation zone.

Corvino: 'Nervous wreck over Toni'

Former Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino recalls being "a nervous wreck," after paying €10m for Luca Toni in 2005 and forcing Dani Osvaldo to return a Ferrari.

Corvino was speaking to Tuttosport about his career as a director and recalled when he signed Toni from Palermo in the summer of 2005 for €10m.

“Only five times had I signed a player with a value over €10m. The biggest one I signed was [Giovanni] Simeone at €16m. With Toni it was the first time that I had spent €10m.
