Pirlo could get Italy role

It’s reported that Andrea Pirlo could take a role in the Italy coaching setup, though it could depend on who the CT is.

The midfielder retired at the end of last year, having finished his playing days in MLS with New York City FC.

Now Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that his next move could be to join the coaching staff at Coverciano, having won the World Cup with the Azzurri in 2006.

Pirlo would be happy to work alongside either Antonio Conte or Carlo Ancelotti, should either of those men be appointed as CT.

The Maestro stopped playing for New York City FC last year, but will officially call it a day in Milan, a choice of venue that raised quite a few questions among Rossoneri and Juventus supporters.

“I want to see the same spirit as always, so we can have fun and be together with our families to enjoy the occasion,” said Pirlo in a Press conference.

“With Barcelona, there were negotiations for Ibrahimovic and I was going to be the player heading in the opposite direction,” the 38-year-old told Sky Sport Italia.

Pirlo: Coutinho worth €160m

Former Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo claims Barcelona are right to pay €160m for Philippe Coutinho. “If Virgil van Dijk is worth €80m…”

Barca finally agreed a deal to sign Coutinho on Saturday, but the sum they will hand over to Liverpool is only surpassed by the €222m that Paris Saint-Germain spent on Neymar last summer.

“Other than the crazy prices, the price of Coutinho is in line with the prices of today,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.

Pjanic following Pirlo's footsteps

After a tricky start in the Juventus jersey, Miralem Pjanic is finally beginning to fulfil his promise as the heir to Andrea Pirlo, writes Emmet Gates.

At the Stadio Dall’Ara in Bologna on Sunday afternoon, Miralem Pjanic stood over a free kick for Juventus. The angle was tight, positioned on the outer reaches of the Bologna penalty area. Despite a well-earned reputation as one of the finest dead-ball specialists in the game, most assumed Pjanic would send the ball into the box. Even for a man of his talent, that was the better option. Wrong.
