Pirlo: ‘I’ll do coaching badges’

New York City FC midfielder Andrea Pirlo will do his coaching badges after he retires because “you never know”.

The veteran has another year on his contract in Major League Soccer and, in answering a question about Francesco Totti’s potential retirement, he also discussed his own future.

“Totti? A lot will depend on him,” Pirlo told SportItalia.

Cassano: ‘Only gave 50 per cent’

Antonio Cassano admits “I only did 50 per cent of what I could have done” and picks his ideal XI.

The former Roma forward, currently a free agent, was touted as the best Italian talent of his generation but had numerous run-ins with Coaches, Presidents and referees.

“I love football,” Cassano told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It made me a man, it gave me popularity and wealth. I gave football goals and emotions, but I only did 50 per cent of what I could have done.

Giovinco and Pirlo big MLS earners

Sebastian Giovinco and Andrea Pirlo are among the top five highest-paid players in Major League Soccer.

The MLS Soccer Player Union revealed the figures and there is a strong former Serie A feel to the biggest star names.

Ex-Milan hero Ricky Kaka is at the top of the pile with an Orlando City contract worth $6.6m, which will rise to $7.2m in 2017 with bonuses.

Toronto FC legend Giovinco follows on $7.1m per year for 2017, including bonuses.

Former Roma midfielder Michael Bradley earns $6.5m per year at Toronto FC.

Conte: No Pirlo reunion

Antonio Conte insists there is no truth in rumours linking former Juventus and Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo with the assistant Coach vacancy at Chelsea.

Former Chelsea player and coach Ray Wilkins claimed earlier in the week that Conte wanted Pirlo to become his No 2 at Stamford Bridge, with incumbent Steve Holland due to take on the same role with England on a full-time basis.

Pirlo could be Chelsea coach

Ray Wilkins says Antonio Conte wants Andrea Pirlo to join his Chelsea coaching staff for next season.

The veteran midfielder played under Conte at Juventus, and is currently playing with New York City FC in MLS.

However, he has refused to confirm that he’ll play on beyond the current season, and one Blues legend says he could join the setup at Stamford Bridge.

“I know for a fact he has been around Stamford Bridge on a number of occasions this year,” Wilkins said on TalkSport.

Pirlo admires young Italy side

Andrea Pirlo is impressed with the new Italy midfield coming through and Gianluigi Donnarumma “is the goalkeeper of the future.”

The New York City FC star spoke to Sky Sport Italia after another group of Azzurri were given their senior debuts in victories over Albania and the Netherlands.

“I like this new Italy side, as some really interesting young players are coming through, we’ve got new faces making their mark and they are all impressive,” said Pirlo.
