Pirlo hopes for competitive Serie A

Andrea Pirlo hopes Serie A can become more competitive “with four or five teams fighting for the Scudetto”.

Juventus have won the title for the past six seasons in a row, an Italian record, and their former midfielder hopes they can be challenged in the coming years.

“For now Juve have proven that they’re ahead,” Pirlo told Corriere della Sera.

“The hope though is that we can go back to having more spectacle, with four or five teams fighting for the Scudetto.

Andrea Pirlo will be cheering on his former Juventus teammates in the Champions League final - “after all these years they deserve it”.

The Bianconeri reached the final in 2015 with the New York City FC midfielder in the side, but they were defeated by Barcelona, and now they have the chance to put things right against Real Madrid in Cardiff.

“It’s definitely not easy to get back to the final,” Pirlo acknowledged in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

Happy birthday, Andrea Pirlo

Today is the 38th birthday of former Inter, Milan and Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo.

Born in Fiero near Brescia, the young Pirlo began his career with Brescia playing in a trequartista role.

His performances soon led to a move to Inter, but he struggled to break into the squad in the 1998-99 campaign and was loaned to Reggina.

After another impressive season in the provinces he was again brought back to San Siro, but after just four League appearances Pirlo was loaned back to Brescia.
