Pirlo: Gattuso won't leave Milan

Andrea Pirlo believes former Milan teammate Gennaro Gattuso will remain in charge at San Siro. “He deserves to stay, he’s doing everything he possibly can.”

Gattuso’s position as Milan boss is reportedly insecure after his side went a fifth game without a win, but Pirlo made it clear his fellow World Cup winner could not have done any better in the circumstances.

“I have no doubt, Rino deserves to stay at Milan,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Pirlo: ‘Napoli aiming for Europa League’

Andrea Pirlo believes Carlo Ancelotti and Napoli “will aim to win the Europa League” after their elimination from the Champions League.

The Partenopei lost 1-0 to Liverpool last night, going out of the competition on goals scored after the two sides finished level on points, head-to-head and goal difference.

Last season’s elimination saw Maurizio Sarri rotate heavily and a swift exit from the Europa League, but Pirlo doesn’t think that’ll be the case this season.

'Why Tonali is the new Pirlo...'

Controversial Brescia owner Massimo Cellino has explained why he believes Sandro Tonali is the new Andrea Pirlo. “I’m rarely wrong.”

Tonali has been heavily likened to Pirlo, given the pair started their careers at Brescia, are both deep-lying playmakers and have similar hairstyles.

“It’s increasingly difficult to find Italians who play regularly, and that hurts our football and national team,” Cellino told RMC Sport.

Serie A free kicks in 15-year low

Only three free kicks have been scored in Serie A this season, but Andrea Pirlo insists the 15-year low is only ‘a bad run’.

Despite the League being littered with set-piece specialists, only Nicolo Barella, Cristiano Biraghi and Aleksandar Kolarov have found the target in the opening 10 weeks of 2018-19.

Not since 2003 have there been so few free kicks scored, and Pirlo was quizzed on why the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lorenzo Insigne and Hakan Calhanoglu had yet to get off the mark.
