Ancelotti inspires Coaches

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini claims Jack Wilshere ‘has the same characteristics as Andrea Pirlo’.

Wilshere is looking to relaunch his career at West Ham after several, injury-hit campaigns with Arsenal, and Pellegrini gave the former Serie A target a glowing endorsement, comparing him to the former Juventus and Milan playmaker.

“A lot of you will remember Juventus around four or five years ago, they played with one holding midfielder,” The Telegraph quotes the Chilean as saying at a Press conference.

Report: No Italy role for Pirlo

Andrea Pirlo has reportedly been overlooked for the position of Italy No 2 as it clashes with his punditry for Sky Sport Italia.

According to ANSA, there is ‘an issue of compatibility’ preventing Pirlo from becoming Mancini’s Azzurri assistant, ‘problems with his personal sponsors’ aside.

That would be because the former Milan and Juventus midfielder is set to feature as a pundit for Sky as part of its Champions League coverage this season.

On this day: Italy win the World Cup!

On this day in 2006, Italy beat France on penalties to win their fourth World Cup.

The Azzurri had come into the tournament under the shadow of the Calciopoli scandal, but a semi-final win over hosts Germany booked their place in the final.

CT Marcello Lippi opted for the same team which started the match in Dortmund, with Francesco Totti preferred to Alessandro Del Piero in attack.

It was a nightmare start for the Azzurri though, as referee Benito Archundia awarded Les Bleus a penalty after just six minutes.
