Reggiana ban for death threats

Reggiana striker Cristian Altinier has been given an eight-game ban after “making death threats” towards the referee in a Serie C/Lega Pro play-off.

Last night’s 2-1 defeat to Siena already caused huge controversy after Reggiana owner and baseball legend Mike Piazza said there was “corruption and incompetence.”

Reggiana: Serie C is corrupt!

Reggiana owner and baseball legend Mike Piazza has accused ‘a few corrupt and dirty individuals’ of eliminating his club from the Serie C playoffs.

Reggiana lost 2-1 to Siena in their playoff quarter-final on Sunday after the Tuscans were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute of injury time, despite their No 5 appearing to have been the one fouled and not vice versa.

“I was not available last night to give a comment because I had to return home with my children,” Piazza wrote on the Granata’s official website.

On this day in 1993, Alessandro Del Piero scored his first goal for Juventus in a 4-0 win over Reggiana.

The young forward had joined the Bianconeri from Padova in the summer of 1993, making his debut against Foggia on September 12.

On the following weekend, Giovanni Trapattoni’s side took an early 3-0 lead against Reggiana at the Stadio Delle Alpi.
Fabrizio Ravanelli broke the deadlock after 11 minutes, with Andreas Moller making it two just two minutes later.

Reggiana approach Pirlo?

Mike Piazza’s new club Reggiana could try to coax Andrea Pirlo back from New York City FC.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pirlo is the dream addition for the side in Lega Pro.

Baseball legend Piazza bought the club this month and was in Reggio-Emilia yesterday to present his project to the town amid a rapturous reception.

Pirlo would certainly attract a great deal of interest, but the veteran Italy midfielder had said he wanted New York City FC as a lifestyle choice, so is unlikely to walk away after just one year.

Mike Piazza is the new owner of Reggiana in Lega Pro and he “will try to build the team with sound management and discipline.”

The Italian-American baseball legend agreed terms to buy the club this evening, having previously been in advanced talks to rescue Parma from bankruptcy a year ago.

“I'm very excited, I am happy the Parma situation was resolved by Guido Barilla and his group,” Piazza told Football-Italia.net in an exclusive interview.

Official: Piazza deal for Reggiana

Baseball legend Mike Piazza has officially agreed terms to buy Lega Pro club Reggiana.

A statement was released this evening by AC Reggiana 1919 confirming they had reached an agreement with Mike Joseph Piazza to buy a majority share.

Piazza is a big fan of Italian football and had been in advanced negotiations to buy Parma last year, but the club’s accounts were in such bad shape that it could not have been salvaged.

Among others, Piazza was also linked with a possible bid for Palermo, the club his father supported, and Como.

Inzaghi: 'Suso did well'

Pippo Inzaghi said Suso’s performance against Reggiana “can make it difficult” to leave him out of the Milan side.

The Spanish winger has made just one 11-minute Coppa Italia appearance since joining from Liverpool in January, but netted twice in today’s 3-0 friendly victory.

“That is his role and I’d been wanting to try him there for a while,” Coach Inzaghi told Milan Channel.

Suso brace in Milan friendly

Suso might finally get a chance at Milan after he scored a sensational brace in their 3-0 friendly win over Reggiana.

The test took place at the Mapei Stadium this evening, the home venue of Serie A side Sassuolo.

It took just four minutes for the ex-Liverpool winger to make his mark, cutting in from the right to unleash a left-foot finish at the near post.

Suso added a second before the break, skipping past two defenders to smash his left-footer into the far top corner from a tight angle.
