Lazio dealt double boost

Lazio’s top-four hopes have been boosted by Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto only being banned a Serie A game each.

The pair were expected to be suspended for two matches after they were shown straight red cards against Chievo, but they will miss just Lazio’s next League fixture at Sampdoria.

In addition to receiving a ban, Milinkovic-Savic has been fined €10,000 by the FIGC.

Locatelli: Juve interest 'fantastic'

Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli has confessed that it would be ‘fantastic’ if Juventus were to ever show an interest in him.

Locatelli came to prominence with a winning goal against Juve in October 2016, and the Milan youth product admits he has eyes on a future move to the Bianconeri.

“Here I feel like a leading light, even if I struggled at the beginning,” the 21-year-old told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Locatelli: Was Messi at Milan, then...

Manuel Locatelli has explained why he left Milan for Sassuolo. “I seemed like the new Messi, then there was the criticism…”

Locatelli appeared destined for a long career with Milan after a breakthrough 2016-17 campaign, but the Italy Under-21 midfielder moved to Sassuolo last summer.

“I scored my first Serie A goal at Sassuolo,” the 21-year-old told Inside Serie A.

“To score a goal at San Siro and crown that comeback was something unique. I was probably destined to come here.

De Zerbi: ‘Juventus make you pay’

Sassuolo Coach Roberto De Zerbi concedes that if you “don’t take your opportunities, Juventus make you pay”, after their 3-0 defeat.

Goals from Sami Khedira, Cristiano Ronaldo and Emre Can secured the three points for the Bianconeri.

However, De Zerbi was left to rue their inability to take their early chances, as he conceded that it made life difficult for them.

“We could have done better with the early opportunities, maybe we would have still lost but the feeling would have been different,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Locatelli: ‘Juventus incomparable’

Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli praised Juventus after their 3-0 win, insisting that “technically, there is no comparison with the others”.

The Bianconeri’s win ensured that they stretched their lead at the top of the Serie A table to 11 points.

Locatelli paid tribute to Massimiliano Allegri’s side, conceding that they’re a level above their rivals.

“We started off very well but dropped off after their goal,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

'Locatelli at Sassuolo for long haul'

Manuel Locatelli’s agent believes the Milan loanee will stay at Sassuolo ‘for at least another season’.

Locatelli joined Sassuolo on loan last summer with an obligatory purchase option worth €12m plus bonuses, and Stefano Castelnovo made it clear the Italy Under-21 midfielder would not be returning to Milan.

“He had the courage to leave Milan,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

De Zerbi defends Sassuolo

Roberto De Zerbi believes Sassuolo did enough to earn a point against Napoli, defending his choices and Manuel Locatelli.

It was a surprisingly hard-fought encounter at the Stadio San Paolo, as in the second half David Ospina was called into several very tricky saves.

“It’s pleasing that Ospina was made to work so hard, as it means we did well,” said the Coach in his Press conference after a 2-0 defeat.

U21: Slovakia crush Italy

Italy Under-21s suffered their heaviest defeat in the Gigi Di Biagio era, falling 3-0 to Slovakia in a friendly with an experimental system.

Coach Di Biagio tested out a new 4-4-2 formation with centre-forwards Patrick Cutrone and Federico Bonazzoli leading the way rather than the usual 4-3-3.

The hosts took the lead somewhat against the run of play, as a Christian Herc slide-rule pass found Lukas Haraslin totally unmarked and his angled drive nutmegged Emil Audero at the near post.
