Albertini: 'Locatelli an all-round midfielder'

Former Italy international Demetrio Albertini has been ‘surprised’ by Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli’s evolvement into a ‘modern all-rounder of high quality’.

The former Milan hero spoke about the modern-day midfielder and pointed to the 22-year-old at the MAPEI Stadium as one of the big surprises in Italian football, along with former Sassuolo teammate and now Inter star, Stefano Sensi.

Locatelli has top club ambitions

Manuel Locatelli has enjoyed his time at Sassuolo so far, but his ambition is to return ‘to a top club and play in the most important competitions’.

The 22-year-old moved from Milan to Sassuolo on a permanent deal last summer, after spending 2018-19 on loan at the MAPEI Stadium.

He has impressed during his time under Roberto De Zerbia and has pointed out that his spell in Emilia-Romagna has helped him develop.

Locatelli: 'My riches to rags story at Milan'

Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli goes back over his “riches to rags” story with Milan. “It really hurt when I was told the club didn’t believe in me.”

The 22-year-old came up through their youth ranks and was tipped for greatness, but sold to Sassuolo for €12.5m plus bonuses in 2018.

“Let’s call it a riches to rags story at Milan, as at the beginning I was considered to be a star, which I absolutely was not,” he said in an Instagram interview with Sassuolo.

Mancini: 'Different Italy at Euro 2021'

Roberto Mancini admits his Italy squad will inevitably change with the Euro 2020 delay to next year, hoping to reap the rewards of improvements to Nicolò Zaniolo, Federico Chiesa, Emerson Palmieri and more.

The tournament was due to kick off on June 12, but has been postponed to the summer of 2021, something that could well transform the Azzurri squad.

De Zerbi: 'Berardi underrated, Caputo for Italy'

Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi has suggested Francesco Caputo could help Roberto Mancini’s Italy and claimed Domenico Berardi is underrated.

The Neroverdi are currently 11th in Serie A and De Zerbi has done a great job with the young squad at the MAPEI Stadium, but the player who stands out from the rest is 32-year-old Caputo.

He arrived from Empoli last summer and has scored 13 goals in 23 Serie A games for Sassuolo and De Zerbi has suggested that he could be the Salvatore Schillaci of Roberto Mancini.

Inter look at Locatelli

Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli could be heading back to San Siro, but this time the Milan youth product would be playing for Inter.

The 22-year-old initially started out with Atalanta, moving to the Milan academy when he was only 12 years old.

He was sold to Sassuolo in 2018 for €12m and became a regular for the Neroverdi.

According to Tuttosport, Inter coach Antonio Conte has set his sights on Locatelli as a potential summer reinforcement.

Inter to look within Italy

Inter are looking within Italy to reinforce their squad for next season, according to Tuttosport.

The Turin daily speculates that the Nerazzurri are looking at other sides in Serie A in order to strengthen their squad ahead of 2020-21.

Fiorentina’s Gaetano Castrovilli is one of the names supposedly on the Inter shortlist.

The youngster has been one of the revelations of the Serie A season so far, and the former Bari midfielder is reportedly admired by Antonio Conte and the Inter hierarchy.

Locatelli has 'big ambitions'

Manuel Locatelli has admitted that his “ambitions” are to play for one of the “great teams” but is adamant about working hard to earn his place at Sassuolo.

The midfielder moved permanently to the MAPEI Stadium ahead of this season, when the Neroverdi paid €10m for the 22-year-old after a successful stint on loan last season.

Locatelli has a lot of “confidence” after playing 19 games in the League this term and feels like he is “growing” under coach Roberto De Zerbi.

Mancini: 'Chiesa not a striker'

Italy coach Roberto Mancini commented on various players in contention for a call up for Euro 2020, and insists Federico Chiesa doesn't play in his correct position. "He's not a striker."

Mancini gave a lengthy interview with former Azzurri coach Arrigo Sacchi, and touched upon multiple issues relating to the national side.

Torino’s Andrea Belotti and Lazio’s Ciro Immobile are firing on all cylinders this season for their respective clubs, and Mancini states that as long as both are still scoring come June, he’s happy.

De Zerbi: 'Victory worth double'

Roberto De Zerbi had a special evening in his hometown of Brescia and felt Sassuolo’s 2-0 victory was “worth double.”

This Week 7 match was rescheduled from October 6 following the death of Sassuolo patron Giorgio Squinzi, so a win allows the Neroverdi to catch Verona and Bologna on 19 points in joint 11th place.

It was a very special match for De Zerbi, as Brescia is his hometown and he was presented with an award before kick-off.
