Kalinic: 'I'm not worth €50m'

Nikola Kalinic does not regret turning down a huge move to Tianjin Quanjian, but admits his Fiorentina future depends on Paulo Sousa.

The striker recently signed a contract extension with a €50m release clause and the Chinese club was prepared to trigger it along with wages worth €10m per year.

“It would’ve been a done deal if I had said yes, even if I’m not sure what the club would’ve said,” Kalinic told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

Sousa backs ‘extraordinary’ Fiorentina

Paulo Sousa has backed his “extraordinary” Fiorentina team to put their Roma humbling behind them on Saturday against Udinese.

Fiorentina fell to their first defeat of 2017 on Wednesday as they were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by Roma, but Sousa is adamant the result was no more than a minor blip.

“Saponara came here with an injury, but he’s integrating. Along with Kalinic, he’s done all training with the group. Both can be called,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

Giampaolo favourite to replace Sousa

Marco Giampaolo is reportedly in pole position to replace Paulo Sousa at Fiorentina.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, there is very little chance that the Portuguese Coach will remain with the Viola beyond the end of the season.

Sousa is only under contract until the end of the current campaign and with a perceived coldness between the two parties, there is little hope of reaching an agreement for an extension.

'Sousa criticism exaggerated'

Fiorentina director Giancarlo Antognini believes recent criticism of Coach Paulo Sousa is 'exaggerated.'

The Viola were thumped 4-0 by Roma on Tuesday evening in what was a dismal team performance, meaning they remain eighth in the Serie A table.

However, defeat at Stadio Olimpico came after the Florence club having taken 10 points from their previous four matches, including a win over rivals Juventus.

"It was a bad night because if you look at the previous four games we have taken 10 points," Antognini told Radio Bruno.

Same old Sousa

Coach Paulo Sousa is sabotaging Fiorentina’s progress, further highlighted by a pathetic performance against Roma, explains Chloe Beresford.

Roma extended their home winning streak to 14 games with an utterly dominant performance over Fiorentina, taking all three points with a 4-0 victory. Even the referee had seen enough by the end of the game, blowing his whistle dead on the 90th minute to spare any further embarrassment to the Viola.

Sousa: 'Roma deserve credit'

Paulo Sousa concedes Fiorentina “lost our way” during the 4-0 defeat, but Roma “maintained high tempo, aggression and quality throughout.”

Edin Dzeko scored twice around Federico Fazio and Radja Nainggolan goals.

“The team did well in the first 25 minutes and it was a balanced game, but when determination like that is put in, it becomes difficult,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Kalinic & Saponara out of Roma

Paulo Sousa has confirmed that Nikola Kalinic and Riccardo Saponara will both miss Fiorentina’s Serie A clash with Roma on Tuesday.

A medical report released by Fiorentina after Sousa’s Press conference read how Kalinic was struggling with “blunt-force trauma” in his right knee, although he had resumed light training, while Saponara was still recovering from an ankle injury, albeit in its final stages.

"Going to Roma brings back bad memories," Vecino revealed to Il Messaggero.

"On January 20, 2015, when I played at Empoli, we were eliminated from the Coppa Italia thanks to a non-existent penalty. How many controversies?..."
