Wk19: And then there were two

A set of freakish occurrences closed out 2017 and at the midway point Serie A is starting to look like a two-horse race, writes Susy Campanale.

The final round of 2017 was also the midway point of the season and for the first time really started to look like a two-horse race. Napoli have seemingly managed to ride out their difficult spell and clinch the title of Winter Champions, while Juventus rediscovered Paulo Dybala’s confidence to stick with the leaders and power into 2018. As for the rest, they’re stuck in 2017.

Oddo: 'Bologna deserved more'

Massimo Oddo was glad Udinese found “different ways to earn three points, but Bologna did not deserve to lose today.”

The Friulani have been positively transformed since Oddo replaced Gigi Del Neri, notching up five consecutive victories, including today’s 2-1 at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

“At times a change of management helps, at times it doesn’t. I found a positive environment here and the lads immediately put themselves at my disposal,” Oddo told Rai Sport.

Jankto brace downs Crotone

Jakub Jankto’s brace helped Udinese ease to a 3-0 win at Crotone, lifting the Zebrette five points clear of the relegation zone.

The Czech international scored either side of half-time, before Kevin Lasagna sealed the result with a tap-in.

Coppa: Udinese win 8-3 thriller

Udinese swept through to the Coppa Italia Round of 16 against Napoli after a truly spectacular 8-3 victory over Serie B outfit Perugia.

It was Coach Massimo Oddo’s first win at the helm, having replaced Gigi Del Neri for the 1-0 Serie A loss to Napoli on Sunday.

Neutrals were certainly not left bored at the Dacia Arena, as the two teams traded blows and goals, including four for Maxi Lopez.

Danilo’s header had opened the scoring and Maxi Lopez converted two penalties, while Kevin Lasagna turned in a left-foot strike.

Udinese conquer Huddersfield

Udinese fought back to beat Huddersfield Town 2-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium thanks to Kevin Lasagna and Ryder Matos.

Gigi Del Neri’s side visited the newly-promoted Premier League outfit in today’s pre-season friendly.

Simone Scuffet was kept busy in goal early on, but could not prevent Tom Ince from opening the scoring after 13 minutes with an angled drive.

Silvan Widmer’s long-range strike was deflected into the path of Lasagna and Rodrigo De Paul’s free kick skimmed the woodwork.

Official: Udinese sign Lasagna

Udinese have officially signed striker Kevin Lasagna from Carpi, but he will remain in Serie B until the end of the season.

This deal had been in the works for a few days after the Friulani beat competition from Sampdoria.

It’s believed to be worth €4.5m plus performance-related bonuses.

The 24-year-old has impressed this term with nine goals in 21 Serie B outings.

Last season he had five top flight goals and three assists, most of them when coming off the bench.

Udinese ready for Lasagna

Udinese have reportedly agreed a €4.5m plus bonuses deal for Carpi striker Kevin Lasagna.

He had also been heavily linked with Sampdoria, but Sky Sport Italia claim the Friulani have won the race.

The 24-year-old impressed during his debut Serie A season, scoring five goals with three assists in 36 top flight appearances, many of them off the bench.

So far this term he has nine goals and two assists in 21 Serie B games for Carpi.

It’s believed Lasagna will remain at Carpi until the end of the season.

Lasagna on menu for Sampdoria

Sampdoria are reportedly in talks for Carpi striker Kevin Lasagna, though he wouldn’t arrive until June.

The forward had an impressive debut Serie A season with five goals and three assists, many of them off the bench.

The 24-year-old continued that form in Serie B, this term netting nine in 21 games.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Samp are laying the groundwork for the future of their attack.

The Blucerchiati hope that by securing a deal now, they can leave Lasagna on loan at Carpi for the rest of the season.

Agent: ‘Bids too low for Lasagna’

Kevin Lasagna is linked with Milan, but his agent says there isn’t a “satisfactory” offer on the table.

It has been reported that the Rossoneri are willing to offer €6.5m for the Carpi striker, as well as sending Gianmario Comi the other way.

“The offers that have been received so far haven’t been considered satisfactory by Carpi,” Massimo Briaschi told Tuttomercatoweb.

“So we’re waiting for news.”

Milan: blitz for Lasagna, Zielinski

Milan have moved quickly and almost closed for Carpi's Kevin Lasagna and Udinese's Piotr Zielinski.

The Rossoneri are keeping a low profile on the market, with no big names being signed yet but several players from lower teams being picked up.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the latest such name is that of Lasagna, who will join from Carpi for €6.5m plus the loan of Gianmario Comi.

Lasagna's agent Massimo Briaschi should be in Carpi today to define the last details of the deal, then the player's transfer can be completed.
