Gabigol pushes for Brazil return

Inter forward Gabriel Barbosa is reportedly pushing to return to Brazil, though the club want to send him to Jiangsu Suning.

The striker joined the Nerazzurri from Santos for a fee totalling €33.5m in the summer of 2016, but he didn’t make a single Serie A start and scored just once.

After failing to convince new Coach Luciano Spalletti in pre-season, the Brazilian, who is known as Gabigol, went on loan to Benfica.

Report: Gabigol to leave Benfica

Benfica will reportedly send Gabriel Barbosa back to Inter in January after “a complete breakdown” between the club and player.

According to A Bola, Gabigol’s final straw was being an unused substitute during Benfica’s Cup match against Vitoria Guimaraes on Saturday.

Consequently, the newspaper does not expect there to be a way back for the Brazilian forward at Estadio da Luz.

Gabigol to Jiangsu Suning?

Gabriel Barbosa’s agent is reportedly trying to convince the Inter forward to join Jiangsu Suning in January.

According to Record, Gabigol met his agent Kia Joorabchian in London last Friday to discuss his future.

The newspaper claims it was there that Joorabchian advised the 21-year-old to leave Benfica, as per Inter’s instructions, after a lack of appearances in Lisbon.

Furthermore, the representative would have proposed the idea of Gabigol spending six months in China with Jiangsu, the Nerazzurri’s sister club.

Santos rule out Gabigol return

Santos have ruled out the prospect of bringing Inter forward Gabriel Barbosa back to the club but insist they “don’t understand why he’s not doing well.”

Gabigol rejects Jiangsu Suning?

Reports in Portugal suggest Gabriel Barbosa has rejected a January move to Jiangsu Suning, despite Inter wanting to swap him for Ramires.

The Brazilian joined the Nerazzurri from Santos in a deal worth a total of €33.5m, but he failed to make a single Serie A start and scored just once.

That saw the striker, known as Gabigol, loaned to Benfica with an option to buy.

However, he has failed to make the breakthrough in Portugal either and has played just 26 minutes so far.

Santos have confirmed that they will hold talks with Inter next week, where Gabriel Barbosa will ‘definitely’ come under discussion.

Gabigol joined Inter for €29.5m from Santos last year but failed to make any starts in his first season with the Nerazzurri, and the young forward has similarly struggled on loan at Benfica.

“We know about Ausilio coming here, and we’re planning to meet him next week,” Luiz Taveira, a spokesman for the Brazilian club, told Calciomercato.com.

Gabigol: 'I didn't fail at Inter'

Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa insists he did not “fail” at Inter and has no intention of walking out early on Benfica. “European football is very different.”

The striker was snapped up at the age of 20 from Santos for €29.5m, but didn’t get a single Serie A start and was loaned to Benfica, where he is also now struggling for playing time.

The complaints at both clubs appear to be the same – he doesn’t work hard enough in training and is tactically deficient.
