Inter must raise €40m

Inter must raise €40m in player sales by June 30 if they’re to meet their Financial Fair Play obligations, according to reports.

The Nerazzurri have been operating under FFP restrictions since 2015-16, but were only “partially compliant” over the three year plan and are still being monitored by UEFA.

In order to break even, reports today’s Corriere dello Sport, they will have to make €40m worth of sales before the reporting period ends on June 30.

Gabigol: 'No Inter regrets'

Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa has found his form with Santos and isn’t sure what didn’t work during his time at Inter, but “fans keep asking me to return.”

The 22-year-old striker was a €29.5m purchase from Santos in 2016, but scored just one Serie A goal and barely featured for the club, as he struggled to adapt to Italian football.

He did no better for six months at Benfica, cut that loan spell short and returned to Brazil, where he rediscovered his mojo.

Santos ‘want to keep Gabigol’

Santos have confirmed that they hope to keep Inter forward Gabriel Barbosa beyond the end of his loan spell.

Gabigol returned to Santos in January after an indifferent 16 months at Inter and has scored five goals in his last four matches, including a hat-trick against Vasco da Gama last time out.

“We know his stay here is linked to the loan that will expire at the end of the year,” Coach Cuca told Globo Esporte.

Gabigol undecided on future

Gabriel Barbosa insists he has not yet decided whether he will return to Inter in January or seek a longer stay with Santos.

FCInterNews reports Gabigol is winning back the support of Santos’ fans after scoring five goals in his last four games, including a hat-trick against Vasco da Gama on Sunday.

“[Coach] Cuca’s given me a lot of confidence, he’s talked to me a lot,” the forward, whose loan from the Nerazzurri expires on December 31, said at a Press conference.

De Boer: 'Gabigol arrogant'

Former Inter Coach Frank de Boer bitterly criticised Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa, accusing him of having a poor work ethic and “thinking himself a superstar.”

The striker was signed at the age of 20 from Santos and failed to make any impact, scoring one goal and having no Serie A starts.

He was loaned out to Benfica, where the situation barely improved, before being returned to Santos on loan with option to buy.

“Gabigol thought he was still in Brazil and would walk rather than run,” De Boer told ESPN.

Malcom Inter riddle

Inter are investing heavily in promising talent, but is Bordeaux winger Malcom a wise purchase at €40m? Richard Hall takes a closer look.

Inter have not rested on their laurels this summer and have already amassed a number of high-profile signings. This feat is even more impressive, as they have done it whilst managing their Financial Fair Play restrictions and they show little sign of stopping.

Looking to add to their attacking options, the Nerazzurri have turned towards Girondins de Bordeaux and their exciting Brazilian wide man Malcom. Should they manage to secure a deal for him, then arguably this will have been one of their best transfer windows in recent times.

Inter should keep before buying

So far in this transfer window, Inter have been remarkably shrewd, but Richard Hall warns some elements are definitely worth sticking with.

Inter director Piero Ausilio was calm and matter of fact when talking about the transfer window. Speaking to SportItalia he discussed potential targets, players he wanted to keep hold of and those of whom he did not know. In fact, the Nerazzurri’s initial moves have looked positive, but there are financial restrictions that still hold them back, despite their dramatic late qualification to the Champions League. The hope is that they can seriously strengthen the squad, but they will have to be shrewd in the way they invest.

Gabigol: ‘I want Inter return’

Gabriel Barbosa insists “I’d like to come back” to Inter after his loan at Santos but “to play” this time.

The Brazilian striker joined the Beneamata in the summer of 2016 for a fee which eventually reached €33.5m, but he scored just one goal and didn’t make a single Serie A start.

After a failed loan spell at Benfica earlier this season he was loaned back to Santos, but the 21-year-old doesn’t think his career in Europe is over.

“I learned a lot of things in Europe,” Gabigol told FCInterNews.

Gabigol struggling at Santos

Reports in Brazil state Gabriel Barbosa has fallen down the pecking order at Santos, following his loan move from Inter.

The Nerazzurri paid a total of €33.5m to take the striker to San Siro in the summer of 2016, but he failed to make a single Serie A start, scoring only once.

After a failed loan spell with Benfica, the Brazilian international returned to his former club in January and scored four goals in his first four games.

‘Gabigol could extend Santos stay’

Santos’ President has claimed that Gabriel Barbosa could stay at the club beyond his one-year loan from Inter.

Gabigol has put a difficult 18 months at Inter and Benfica behind him to score four goals in his first eight appearances for Santos since returning in January.

“It’s not impossible for him to stay at the Santos for longer: he can stay here another year on loan,” Jose Carlos Peres said of the young forward to Lance.

“There’s a clause in his contract, as long as both parties agree [to honour it].”
