Gabigol-Santos, then Sturridge-Inter?

Gabigol’s expected loan from Inter to Santos could pave the way for Daniel Sturridge to move to the San Siro.

The Liverpool forward has been heavily linked with a temporary move to Serie A of late, with Roma also thought to be interested in his services.

And Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Nerazzurri will be ready to make an offer for the England international once they have ensured the return of Gabigol to his former club.

The Brazilian struggled at Inter last season before being loaned to Portuguese side Benfica for this campaign.

Santos delay Gabigol announcement

Santos had hoped to announce the return of Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa from Inter today, but it was postponed by red tape.

The striker was sold for €29.5m in the summer of 2016, but never received a single Serie A start, while his loan at Benfica hasn’t gone any better.

A comeback to Brazil is all decided, with Gabigol taking a pay cut to help the loan with option to buy go through smoothly.

‘I know where to play Gabigol’

Santos Coach Jair Ventura says he “knows where to play” Gabriel Barbosa, who is close to returning on loan from Inter.

The striker joined the Nerazzurri for a total of €33.5m in 2016, but scored only one goal and failed to make a single Serie A start.

Following a similarly unsuccessful spell on loan with Benfica the Brazilian, who is known as Gabigol, wants to return to his parent club.

Last night it was reported that an 18-month loan is a done deal, with the 21-year-old accepting a pay cut.

Gabigol to Santos: Done deal?

At least one transfer soap opera seems to be over, as Gabriel Barbosa is heading back to Santos on an 18-month loan, giving Inter €1.5m.

According to Mediaset Premium, Gabigol has agreed to reduce his salary during the spell at his hometown club.

Santos will also hand over €1.5m to Inter for the 18-month period and share the wages with the Nerazzurri.

Gabigol had been on loan at Benfica with option to buy, but made only five competitive appearances for a grand total of 164 minutes of football, scoring one goal.

Gabigol-Santos loan hits problems?

It is reported that Santos are struggling to agree a deal to sign Inter’s Gabigol on loan.

The forward struggled for game-time and goals with the Nerazzurri last season and was consequently loaned to Portuguese side Benfica for this campaign.

However, he has found life in Lisbon equally difficult, making only five appearances and scoring once since his move last summer.

Santos are keen to take Gabigol, who began his career at the Brazilian club, back on a temporary basis.

Santos must pay for Gabigol

Inter are prepared to leave Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa at Benfica unless Santos agree to pay at least €3m for his six-month loan.

The Brazilian has made no impact in Europe and was named Bidone d’Oro – Flop of the Year – after failing to make a single Serie A start following his €29.5m move from Santos.

A loan spell at Benfica has been equally dismal and he wants a return to Santos, but the Brazilian club has no intention of paying for the privilege.

Santos: 'Possibility for Gabigol'

Santos confirm “there is a possibility” of signing Gabriel Barbosa, “but it depends on Inter and Gabigol. It’d be worth breaking the salary cap.”

The forward was born and raised at Santos before his €29.5m transfer to San Siro in August 2016, but was not given a single Serie A start and is also struggling for playing time during his loan to Benfica.

A return to Brazil seems imminent, with Flamengo and Sao Paulo also interested, but naturally a return to Santos is top of his wish-list.
