Basile: 'Higuain soiled himself'

Former Argentina Coach Alfio Basile blamed Gonzalo Higuain for their 2014 World Cup Final defeat to Germany. “He soiled himself.”

The phrase is in his new autobiography, titled ‘Generacion Lio’ and the Juventus striker does not come out well from this book.

“Of all the players, the one that was most singled out by the people for blame was Gonzalo Higuain. They do not want him in their squad because when that World Cup is remembered, the chance he missed at the start is what cost us the title.

Dybala dropped for Juve-Napoli?

Miralem Pjanic, Mario Mandzukic and Stefano Sturaro are in doubt to face Napoli, but Juventus could drop Paulo Dybala due to poor form.

There are now only four points separating the top two in Serie A ahead of Sunday’s Scudetto showdown.

Pjanic and Mandzukic missed last night’s 1-1 draw at Crotone due to injury and today they resumed training, albeit on a separate schedule from the rest of the squad.

Sturaro played at the Stadio Scida and he has been diagnosed with an Achilles tendon issue, so is unlikely to be fit in time for Sunday.

Lautaro ‘half Icardi, half Higuain’

Lautaro Martinez is a mix of Gonzalo Higuain and Mauro Icardi, according to former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.

There is real curiosity as to what Martinez will offer Inter when he arrives from Racing Club, and Cambiasso believes have bought themselves a clinical finisher in the 20-year-old.

“Icardi? In Argentina, there’s always talk about the abundance of quality that the Coach Sampaoli has in attack,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Napoli running on empty

In recent weeks, the unstoppable Napoli juggernaut has started to creak, as Richard Hall notes they need the fresh legs of Arkadiusz Milik.

The last gasp strike against Chievo last weekend sent the San Paolo into delirium. As Amadou Diawara celebrated, the emotion in the stadium left many fans, like the team, exhausted. This has been a sign of Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli in recent weeks, a jaded version of their former self continuing to fight to the last. Like a glorious cavalry brigade, they started off with their uniforms crisp, their presentation and application immaculate. Now after a long war, they resemble a tired few fighting hard until the bitter end.

Juve consider 4-2-4 at Madrid?

Juventus are reportedly considering a 4-2-4 formation for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid.

According to Tuttosport, the 4-2-4 is one of two formations Juve could adopt when they try to overturn their 3-0 deficit at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The newspaper explains the first is a 4-3-3, with a midfield of Blaise Matuidi, Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira in midfield supporting Gonzalo Higuain and two of Douglas Costa, Juan Cuadrado and Mario Mandzukic up top.

Del Piero: ‘Juventus are stronger now’

Alessandro Del Piero believes there has been too much talk about last year’s Champions League final - ‘Juventus are different now’.
