Simeone: 'I want Atletico move'

Cagliari’s Giovanni Simeone admits he wants to play for Atletico Madrid ‘more than anything else’ and considers Gonzalo Higuain his role model.

Giovanni is the son of Atletico boss Diego Simeone, but the striker made it clear he would still sign for the Spaniards even without his father managing them.

“More than anything else,” he told ESPN when asked if he would like to play for Los Colchoneros.

Sarri: 'Higuain needs tough love'

Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri claims he only ever fights with Gonzalo Higuain, who ‘needs pampering one day and beating against a wall the next’.

Juve are seven points clear at the top of Serie A after they won and both Lazio and Inter lost in the last round of fixtures.

However, they are preparing to face a Milan side who they struggled against in the Coppa Italia and who remain unbeaten since the restart.

“Tomorrow’s a difficult game for us,” Sarri said at a press conference.

Higuain: 'Back from a bad period'

Gonzalo Higuain admits he went through a ‘bad period’ but ‘understood’ Juventus needed him after his comeback goal against Lecce.

Higuain was among the last to return to Juve after he tended to his sick mother in Argentina at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the 32-year-old netted during last night’s 4-0 victory over Lecce and assures he is now focused on ‘finishing the season in the best way’.

Sarri: 'I'd like to keep Pjanic'

Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri is happy for Gonzalo Higuain, calls Douglas Costa an ‘extraordinary weapon’ and hopes Miralem Pjanic will stay ‘beyond August’.

Juve took a while to get going against Lecce on Friday night, not scoring any of their goals in the 4-0 win until the 53rd minute.

“I saw a game that was most painful in a physical sense,” Sarri said after the game.

Higuain returns against Lecce

Juventus still chase Milik?

Napoli forward Arek Milik could reportedly reunite with Maurizio Sarri at Juventus this summer, to replace Gonzalo Higuain for the second time in his career.

Il Corriere dello Sport claims the link between Milik and the Bianconeri has not disappeared and claims the Poland international could be on his way to Turin.

Four years after having replaced Higuain at the San Paolo under Sarri’s reign, the 26-year-old could follow in the Argentine’s footsteps yet again.

Ravanelli: 'Marseille could sign Higuain'

Fabrizio Ravanelli has vowed to target Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain if he becomes Olympique Marseille’s sporting director.

Higuain’s contract expires next summer and a renewal is looking unlikely, with a return to River Plate heavily mooted.

However, Ravanelli is confident of swaying the 32-year-old to Marseille on one condition.

“If I was Marseille’s sporting director? I’d bring in Higuain!” the ex-Italy striker told L’Equipe.

Higuain and Ramsey out of Coppa semi

Gonzalo Higuain, Giorgio Chiellini and Aaron Ramsey are out of the Juventus squad for this evening’s Coppa Italia semi-final with Milan.

It kicks off in Turin at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) after the 1-1 first leg result at San Siro on February 13.

If they are all-square on aggregate at the end of play, the teams will skip extra time and go straight to penalties.

Higuain, Chiellini, Ramsey and defender Merih Demiral are out of Maurizio Sarri’s squad, as they are not 100 per cent fit for the first game back after the three-month lockdown.

Higuain doubt, Paqueta ready

Gonzalo Higuain is a major doubt to feature for Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-final, as they go for a trident, while Milan lean towards Lucas Paqueta and Ante Rebic.

The first leg ended 1-1 at San Siro and the decider will be at the Allianz Juventus Stadium on June 12.

Higuain again did not take part in training today, so although tests ruled out a thigh strain, he is still increasingly unlikely to play next week.

Aaron Ramsey worked separately from the group, but RAI Sport believe he will be ready to at least come off the bench.
