Roma losing sight of Juve

Juventus stormed into a five-point lead at the top as Roma’s title challenge begins to stutter, writes Alasdair Mackenzie.

Within the space of a week the Scudetto race has changed dramatically, as Juventus displayed their ruthlessness and Roma their fragility.

A 3-1 win away to Napoli last weekend could well be looked back upon as the decisive moment of this season for the Bianconeri, as they not only overcame a rival but also a long-standing poor record at the San Paolo. But if anybody had thought this might result in complacency as they took on Hellas Verona twice in 72 hours between Coppa Italia and Serie A, they were proved emphatically wrong.

Juve on Pogba and Giovinco

Beppe Marotta denied knowledge of Sebastian Giovinco’s Toronto FC move and said Paul Pogba is “resisting” big offers.

The general manager spoke to Sky Sport Italia ahead of tonight’s Serie A match against Verona.

“We are accustomed to putting together a squad during the summer. We are not in any emergency situation, so there’s no need to sign anyone in January.

“Of course if a good opportunity was to present itself, then we would take it, but at the moment I don’t see any.”
