Benatia: 'Roma rejected Ziyech'

Hakim Ziyech ‘would’ve run to Roma,’ reveals Medhi Benatia, but President James Pallotta blocked the deal, considering him ‘an excessive expense.’

“I had tried to get him to come to Roma, and he would’ve run to join this club,” fellow Morocco international and ex-Giallorossi defender Benatia told La Gazzetta dello Sport magazine Sportweek.

Official: Friedkin Group pay 591m for Roma

Roma and The Friedkin Group have released a joint statement confirming the cost of the takeover from James Pallotta is €591m, including the cost over covering their debt.

As the Giallorossi are floated on the Italian stock exchange, they are forced to release statements to the CONSOB.

This confirms they “might also be aimed at delisting Team” – in other words, taking Roma off the stock exchange.

A marathon 2019-20 campaign came to a disappointing conclusion with a 2-0 defeat to Sevilla in Duisburg, but the club’s sale to American billionaire Dan Friedkin under 24 hours before kick-off brings hope for a brighter future. However, a meek capitulation to the Andalusians highlighted the current gulf in class between the Giallorossi and Europe’s best.

Report: Friedkin back in for Roma

Tuttomercatoweb claim The Friedkin Group are close to a €600m takeover of Roma, on the verge of an agreement with James Pallotta, who could then reinvest in Newcastle United.

They had originally been in advanced negotiations, as confirmed by a statement from AS Roma, but the deal was stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic and consequent change in financial outlook all over the world, not just in sport.
