Sampdoria's historic start

Sampdoria have started the Serie A season with three straight defeats for only the fifth time in their history.

The Blucerchiati were beaten 3-0 by Lazio, 4-1 at Sassuolo and this evening 2-0 away to Napoli.

The only other occasions in which Samp had zero points after three rounds were in 1950-51, 1970-71, 1972-73 and the most recent occurrence in the 2004-05 campaign.

It remains to be seen if the club will continue to back Coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

Inzaghi: 'Normal not enough for Lazio'

Simone Inzaghi confirmed Kosovo international Valon Berisha will start for Lazio against SPAL. “A normal performance isn’t enough here.”

Koulibaly: Italy, look at England

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly claims black players in Serie A risk becoming ‘prisoners of minorities’ unless Italy starts kicking out racist fans.

Koulibaly has been subjected to racial abuse from Lazio and Inter supporters in recent seasons, and the Senegalese believes the time has come for authorities to finally get serious about fighting the problem.

“Why we can’t wait...” he told Corriere dello Sport, beginning with a famous Martin Luther King Jr. quote.

Serie A Week 3 referees

The referees for Serie A Week 3 are announced as Massimiliano Irrati will officiate the clash between Fiorentina and Juventus.

Irrati [pictured, right] is one of Italy’s most experienced referees and was the VAR for the World Cup Final last year.

Elsewhere, Milan’s trip to Verona will be overseen by Gianluca Manganiello, Maurizio Mariani will take charge of Inter-Udinese and Federico La Penna is the man in the middle for Napoli’s visit of Sampdoria.

Lotito: 'Lazio can beat anyone'

Lazio President Claudio Lotito maintains his team “can fight it out with everyone, it’s just about proving it on the pitch.”

The Biancocelesti won the Coppa Italia and therefore participate in the Europa League again this season.

“I hope the team can express its full potential,” Lotito told Tuttomercatoweb.

“We can fight it out with everyone, it’s just about proving it on the pitch. We deserved more than a draw in the derby with Roma, but things don’t always go the well they need to in football.”

Conte all-time top Serie A earner

Antonio Conte is reportedly the highest-paid Coach in Serie A history on €11m per year at Inter, double the salary of second-placed Maurizio Sarri of Juventus.

La Gazzetta dello Sport drew up a list of this season’s top-earning tacticians and found that not only was Conte leading the way for the 2019-20 campaign, but also the history of Italian football.

Conte is believed to pick up €11m per year net to sit on the Inter bench, which is double the €5.5m that Sarri earns at Juventus.

Commissions cost €478.2m this summer

Over the summer of 2019, intermediaries in transfer dealings earned $529.3m in commissions, approximately €478.2m.

As calculated by Inside World Football using the FIFA TMS (transfer match system), agents and intermediaries have played an increasing role in the rising cost of football moves.

The 2019 figure has increased radically from the previous year and of that sum, 64.9 per cent was paid by the club making the purchase.

The statistics also showed that 47 per cent of the value “came from just 50 transfers.”

Tare: Why I rejected Milan...

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has confessed that he rejected Milan over the summer. “I chose with my heart, not money.”

Tare was Milan’s first choice to replace Leonardo, but the Albanian ended up sticking with Lazio and the Rossoneri went for ex-Roma executive Ricky Massara.

“I’m in a hurry to reach the Champions League,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“The group knows that in the last three years, we could’ve easily qualified.

Revealed: Serie A's highest earners

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is Serie A’s runaway highest earner on €31m a season, with Matthijs de Ligt and Romelu Lukaku already second and third.

An investigation by Gazzetta dello Sport discovered Serie A was spending €1.36bn on gross salaries – the most in the League’s history.

That is chiefly down to Ronaldo’s extravagant income of almost €600,000 a week and Juve’s wage bill of €294m – more than double that of nearest challengers Inter (€139m).

Euro 2020: Lukaku stars for Belgium

Romelu Lukaku starred during Belgium’s 4-0 victory over Scotland in Euro 2020 qualifying, but Marcelo Brozovic and Ante Rebic struggled for Croatia.

Croatia remain top of Group E but saw their lead cut to just one point after a 1-1 draw with Azerbaijan.

Inter midfielder Brozovic contributed with just a 21st-minute booking, while Milan new boy Rebic was substituted with four to go.
