Real Madrid rejected for Milinkovic?

Spanish reports claim Lazio turned down a €95m offer from Real Madrid for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this week.

According to Don Balon, the proposal arrived 24 hours before the Serie A transfer deadline, meaning the Aquile had no time to find a suitable replacement.

The Spanish clubs are still open for business until August 31, but Lazio won’t let the Serbia international go without the opportunity to get an alternative.

Sarrilotti Napoli can go far

The new-look Napoli ultimately isn't that different to Maurizio Sarri's side, as Carlo Ancelotti puts a spin on Sarriball, writes Alasdair Mackenzie.

Carlo Ancelotti insisted ahead of ending his nine-year absence from Serie A that Napoli’s system would stay the same under his guidance – only the interpretation would change.

While the Partenopei’s 2-1 comeback victory against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday hinted at a certain shift in dynamic, this was no wholesale departure from the Maurizio Sarri blueprint that has been etched into the minds of these players over the last three years.

Lazio resisted offers for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and are working out a new contract that could include a €150m release clause.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serbian midfielder also decided to remain at the Olimpico on the promise of an improved deal.

His current salary of €1.8m per year will increase to €3m plus performance-related bonuses.

It’s reported Milinkovic-Savic’s agents are eager to introduce a release clause, but Lazio wouldn’t set it any lower than €150m.

Ciro Immobile had given them the lead at the Stadio Olimpico, but Arkadiusz Milik and Lorenzo Insigne turned it around.

However, after Milik had one goal disallowed via VAR, he did eventually get the equaliser with a Maurizio Sarri style goal, Jose Callejon knockdown at the far post.
