Ancelotti: ‘At Napoli to win’

Carlo Ancelotti came to Napoli “to win”, and explains how he’s shifted from Maurizio Sarri's style to his own.

The 59-year-old was appointed as Partenopei Coach in the summer, returning to Italian football after close to a decade away.

“There’s a good quality of play in the league,” Ancelotti told Corriere della Sera.

“The national team is blooding interesting young people, and there’s a new President of the FIGC [Gabriele Gravina] with clear ideas.

Roma offered Capello new role

Roma approached Scudetto-winning Coach Fabio Capello for a new role as technical director, but he turned it down, according to reports.

Radio Centro Suono Sport claim today that Capello was given the proposal around a month ago, suggesting he would be an aid to Coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

However, Capello maintains he has retired after his experience at Jiangsu Suning and does not have interest in becoming a technical director.

Capello: ‘Don’t underestimate Porto’

Former Roma Coach Fabio Capello warns his old side not to underestimate Porto - “even here, watch out”.

The Giallorossi finished second in their Champions League group, and many felt they were handed a kind draw in the Last 16.

However, the Portuguese champions have dropped just two points in Europe this season, and have won 11 of their 13 league games.

“It’ll take a great Roma to go through,” Capello warned, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Sousa ready to take Roma job?

Roma could sack Eusebio Di Francesco if he doesn’t beat Genoa on Sunday, with Paulo Sousa reportedly ready to accept a six-month contract.

The tactician took them to third place in Serie A and the Champions League semi-final last season, but their form has stuttered badly this term, partly due to an injury crisis.

Despite already booking their place in the Champions League Round of 16, the Giallorossi are under pressure and widely expected to fire Di Francesco if he doesn’t change their domestic fortunes fast.

Capello: ‘Inter were good and then…’

Fabio Capello saw “a good game” from Inter at Wembley, until they allowed Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko “to run for 30 metres with the ball at his feet”.

The Nerazzurri were beaten 1-0 by a late Christian Eriksen goal, but the French international was crucial in the build-up, surging down the right flank and setting up Dele Alli for a clever lay-off.

“The Nerazzurri played a good game at Wembley and they were attentive,” Capello told Sky.

Capello: Madrid worse than Roma, but...

Fabio Capello believes ‘Real Madrid are worse than Roma at the moment’ but warns the Champions League ‘stimulates’ Los Blancos.

Madrid’s mini-revival came to an end on Saturday as they were beaten 3-0 by Eibar, although Roma similarly suffered a 1-0 defeat to Udinese.

“Perhaps Real are worse at the moment,” Capello, who coached both clubs in his career, told Gazzetta dello Sport.

When Roma took the Scudetto

With Roma struggling to find the right balance and build on their potential, Vilizar Yakimov rolls back the years by looking into the remarkable 2001 Scudetto triumph.

“If you do exactly what I’m asking for, we’re going to win the title.” Those were Fabio Capello’s words towards Marco Delvecchio in the summer of 2000, as the tactician was preparing for his second season at the helm of a very talented, but inconsistent Roma side.

Ibra: ‘Juventus made me a machine’

Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes he “became a machine” at Juventus, thanks to Fabio Capello’s constant shooting drills.

The Swedish striker joined the Bianconeri from Ajax in 2004, but was initially known more for his showboating than goalscoring.

“In the beginning, where I grew up it was not about scoring goals, it was about who had the best skills, the best technique and I brought that with me wherever I went,” Ibrahimovic told BBC Sport.
