Calcio down and out

Napoli and Juventus stumbled out of Europe at the quarter-final stage, as Giancarlo Rinaldi looks back over yet another year of disappointment.

What’s another year? It’s a question once sung by that master of European competition Johnny Logan, but it could soon become the theme tune for the continental forays of Serie A sides.

One more season went into the history books on Thursday night with the dream of even a place in the semi-finals denied. It feels like Italian teams have been barred from a club where they used to enjoy some of their best nights out. There’s always another TV box-set to binge-watch, I suppose.

'Kessie-Bakayoko blown out of proportion'

Milan striker Patrick Cutrone claims the saga involving Franck Kessie, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Francesco Acerbi’s shirt has been blown out of proportion.

Milan are fourth in Serie A with only six games to go but travel to Parma on Saturday just a point clear of Roma.

“It’s a very important match for fourth place, which is our objective,” Cutrone told Sky Sport Italia.

“We want to qualify in the Champions League at all costs, facing the six games that we have left with the desire to win.

Lazio fans racially abuse Bakayoko

A shocking clip has emerged of Lazio fans racially abusing Milan midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Milan News and several other outlets have circulated a video of Lazio supporters chanting about Bakayoko in a discriminatory manner during their 2-0 win against Udinese on Monday.

“This banana is for Bakayoko,” they can clearly be heard singing.

It is seen as a response to the Frenchman parading Francesco Acerbi’s shirt like a trophy with Franck Kessie at the end of the Aquile’s 1-0 defeat to Milan last weekend.

Serie A Week 33 referees

The referees for Serie A’s Week 33 fixtures are announced as Marco Guida will take charge of Inter-Roma.

No games are being played this Sunday due to it being Easter weekend, so there are nine games on Saturday, with Napoli’s visit of Atalanta scheduled for Monday due to their Europa League commitments this evening.

Guida has already officiated the Derby della Mole between Juventus and Torino this season, as well as the Milan derby and Roma’s trip to San Siro in August for their match against the Rossoneri.

Inzaghi: Lazio looking forward

Simone Inzaghi has warned Lazio’s rivals that his side are ready to win the race for fourth in Serie A after their 2-0 victory over Udinese.

Two first-half goals were enough to end Lazio’s winless run on Wednesday, despite Udinese missing a penalty, leaving the Aquile just three points off Milan.

“We were good, we played well from the first whistle,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“In the first half perhaps we could’ve scored one more goal. At the beginning of the second half we suffered a slight drop.

“I always sign one-year agreements, then the results decide my future. Now, after coaching for a long time in Italy, I wanted a national team and I’m happy to be here.

Spurs look at Luiz Felipe?

Lazio defender Luiz Felipe has reportedly caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Coach Mauricio Pochettino is looking at Luiz Felipe due to concerns over the long-term future of Toby Alderweireld.

The 22-year-old has an Italian passport and recently turned down the opportunity to represent the Azzurri at Under-21 level as he is waiting for a call-up to the Brazil squad.
