Reja: 'Now Lazio can set targets'

Edy Reja marks a turning point in Lazio's campaign after today's victory. “We are mathematically safe, now for the Europa League.”

The Biancocelesti are currently in second place and could be considered Scudetto contenders, but the tactician is keeping calm after the 2-0 win over Fiorentina.

“Today we have 40 points, therefore are mathematically safe and anything else that we achieve this season will be a bonus,” said Reja.

Reja: 'Lazio have dipped'

Edy Reja admits that Lazio have dipped of late, but still feels they can be protagonists in the second half of the season.

The Aquile started the campaign strongly and went into the Christmas break on the podium in Serie A.

However, three defeats in their last four games in all competitions has brought about a reality check.

"We are not doing well," Reja said. "But a period of mental and physical difficulty can happen over the course of a season.

Zarate ban reduced

Lazio striker Mauro Zarate has seen his ban for violent misconduct reduced by the FIGC.

The Argentine lost his head and sparked a huge brawl at the end of last week's game against Bologna at the Renato Dall'Ara.

He tried to punch one of Bologna's players and ended up clipping the linesman instead.

Zarate initially received a three-match suspension.

However, a review of the incident means Lazio will now be without him for two games only.

Zarate banned for three games

Lazio's Mauro Zarate has been suspended for three matches after being involved in a post-match altercation at Bologna yesterday.

The Argentine was at the centre of a scuffle which saw numerous players, playing staff and even match officials involved.

The incident has been looked at closely by the disciplinary panel on Monday and the Argentine has been slapped with a three-game stop.

Bologna haven't escaped punishment though after Henry Gimenez was dismissed for his actions while sitting on the Bologna bench.

Zarate hits linesman in Dall'Ara brawl

Mauro Zarate risks a lengthy ban after a brawl in Bologna-Lazio that saw him punch a referee's assistant and allegedly spit in an opponent's face.

There had already been a scuffle a few minutes earlier that saw Andre Dias sent off and Henry Gimenez red carded from the Bologna bench.

However, at the final whistle a brawl broke out on the touchline with Zarate at the centre of it. The video footage shows he threw the ball at Matteo Rubin's head, then got into a shoving match with two opponents.

Reja: 'Lazio were provoked'

Lazio Coach Edy Reja insists Mauro Zarate and his men “were provoked” during the two brawls that marred their defeat at Bologna.

Andre Dias was sent off for a horror tackle on Gaston Ramirez, which degenerated into a scuffle with Henry Gimenez coming off the Bologna bench to join in.

Gimenez was also red carded in that incident.

Juve look to Zarate and Vucinic

Juventus are reportedly aiming to take advantage, as Mauro Zarate and Mirko Vucinic have problems at Lazio and Roma respectively.

The Bianconeri have a striker shortage after Fabio Quagliarella was ruled out for the season and Luca Toni for a month.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Juve are targeting top stars who are unsettled at the Stadio Olimpico.

Zarate is the prime candidate, as he continues to have disagreements with Lazio Coach Edy Reja.

Reja drops Zarate for Sculli

Edy Reja insists there is “no Mauro Zarate problem,” but confirms Giuseppe Sculli will start in his place against Bologna.

There have been reports for a year of disagreements between the Lazio Coach and his star player, as the tactician publicly slammed his work rate and tendency to hog the ball.

“Zarate played 90 minutes for three games in a row and is coming off a slight muscular twinge, so he will be on the bench. There is no Zarate problem,” assured Reja.
