Lazio confirm Cana swoop

Lazio are officially making a bid for Galatasaray star Lorik Cana, confirmed patron Claudio Lotito.

It had been reported the two clubs were in talks yesterday and this evening all doubt was washed away.

“I gave director Igli Tare the job of bringing the player to Rome,” declared the President.

“Cana can be a useful figure in our squad and reinforce the defence. He is physically strong and has bags of experience.”

Reja plays down Roma feud

Lazio boss Edy Reja says the comments he made about refereeing and Roma on Sunday were exaggerated.

Reja caused controversy by arguing that 'many other factors' will determine whether Lazio finish fourth, not just their own form.

He then pointed out that Roma were fortunate to get a penalty during their 2-1 win against Udinese on Saturday evening.

Roma general manager Gian Paolo Montali said: "We have another style. We cannot and will not lower ourselves to such a level."

Reja: 'Mazzarri not a gentleman'

Edy Reja aimed a sideswipe at Napoli Coach Walter Mazzarri, as “he is not a gentleman,” but tried to focus Lazio on their test with Parma.

The Biancocelesti are still smarting after their 4-3 defeat in Naples last week and Reja hasn't forgiven his opponents for post-match comments.

“I have a different way of dealing with victory. Mazzarri is a great Coach, which is obvious from his results, but in terms of his personality it's safe to say he is not a gentleman.

Lazio to bring back Diego

Lazio will make a sensational bid to bring former Juventus playmaker Diego back to Serie A if they qualify for next year's Champions League.

The 26-year-old Brazilian was sold by Juventus after just one season and felt particularly bitter about his treatment at the hands of the club's new management.

Since joining Wolfsburg things haven't improved for the richly talented Diego. His side are at risk of relegation from the Bundesliga and have been through three managers this season.

Lotito stands up for Reja

President Claudio Lotito defends Lazio Coach Edy Reja against fan protests. “He doesn't understand it and neither do I.”

The Biancocelesti were in the top three for most of the campaign, but have slipped off the pace recently, including a derby defeat to Roma.

“Reja is a sensitive person and a great professional. He brought balance back to the locker room, is achieving the objectives we set out and providing good football,” stated Lotito.
