Serie A pays Sala tributes

Serie A clubs and players have paid tribute to former Nantes and Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala, who was pronounced dead on Thursday.

Sala had been missing since the light aircraft he was travelling on went off radar on the evening of January 21, before his body was confirmed to have been removed from the wreckage.

Inter, Napoli, Lazio and Milan were among the clubs who tweeted messages of condolences, as well as Fiorentina, who tragically lost captain Davide Astori only last year.

Iachini: Empoli deserved more

Beppe Iachini claims Empoli have ‘great regret on our part’ after they failed to ‘bring home what we deserved’ against Lazio on Thursday.

“In the last 5-6 games we’ve been involved in some unfavourable incidents, but there’s not much we can do about them,” the Coach said after his side’s 1-0 defeat.

“We put together some great moves but we lacked the last pass too often in the final third.

Line-ups: Lazio-Empoli

Ciro Immobile is not in Lazio’s XI for their Serie A match against Empoli this evening, but Romulo makes his debut.

Immobile joins Luis Alberto out of Lazio’s squad after they failed to prove their fitness in time for the game.

However, Romulo is selected for the first time since his deadline-day arrival from Genoa last month, playing as a right wingback.

Empoli, meanwhile, hand debuts to new signings Cristian Dell’Orco and Diego Farias.

Immobile in Lazio squad, but...

Ciro Immobile is in Lazio’s squad to face Empoli in Serie A this evening, but the striker is not expected to take part.

Lazionews.eu writes that despite his inclusion in the squad, alongside fellow attacker Luis Alberto, Immobile is still struggling with a muscle problem.

Consequently he should remain a substitute for the visit of Empoli, although the website believes having their top goalscorer around will give the Aquile a ‘psychological’ edge.
