Berna encouraged by Sarri start

Federico Bernardeschi was encouraged by Juventus’ performance during their 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. “The team played very well.”

Maurizio Sarri suffered defeat in his first game as Juve boss, going down to a last-gasp Harry Kane lob from the halfway line, with Bernardeschi tried out in three different roles.

“We’re disappointed with the result, but the team played very well, especially in the second half,” he said after the game.

Sarri: Juve weren't as fit

Maurizio Sarri admits Juventus have to learn to ‘defend further forward’ after their 3-2 defeat but insists Tottenham Hotspur were fitter than his side.

Juve went 2-1 up in their International Champions Cup opener against Tottenham, but they were ultimately undone by Harry Kane’s lob from the halfway line.

“It was a difficult game against a renowned team,” said Sarri after his first game in charge of the Bianconeri.

Kane stuns Juve on Sarri debut

Maurizio Sarri lost on his Juventus debut as they suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in their International Champions Cup opener.

Gianluigi Buffon started his first game since returning to Juve, but Matthijs de Ligt and Adrien Rabiot were substitutes against a Tottenham side made up of predominantly youth graduates.

The Bianconeri already showed signs of adopting Sarri’s passing style in the first half, but they fell behind to an Erik Lamela tap-in after Buffon parried away Troy Parrott’s powerful low shot.

Line-ups: Juve-Tottenham

Gianluigi Buffon starts his first game since returning to Juventus against Tottenham Hotspur, but Matthijs de Ligt and Adrien Rabiot are substitutes.

Buffon wears the No 1 jersey for Maurizio Sarri’s unofficial debut in the Juve dugout, having recently moved back from Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Bianconeri fans will have to wait a little longer to see De Ligt and Rabiot in action as Daniele Rugani partners Leonardo Bonucci in defence and Blaise Matuidi gets the nod alongside midfielders Miralem Pjanic and Emre Can.

Arsenal expose Fiorentina faults

Fiorentina were wasteful in front of goal and caught out too easily at the back in a 3-0 International Champions Cup defeat to Arsenal.

The Viola had a strong start in Charlotte, as Riccardo Saponara turned a free header off target and Dusan Vlahovic stung the gloves of Emiliano Martinez, with Andrea Sottil unable to tap in the rebound.

However, a mistimed defensive slide from Sebastian Cristoforo proved disastrous moments later, allowing Eddie Nketiah to fire in relatively undisturbed.

Conte: 'Perisic not suited' to Inter role

Antonio Conte sent shockwaves through Inter by declaring Ivan Perisic “is not suited the role I am asking for, so right now the only place he can play is upfront.”

The move to a 3-5-2 formation is proving a problem for the Croatia international, who today only came off the bench in the second half of their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.

“We are working, but the responses so far are not positive,” said Conte in his Press conference.
