Moratti: 'Leo more than I dreamed of'

Inter President Massimo Moratti hails Leonardo. “He is taking us above and beyond what I dreamed of.”

The team was in crisis when Rafa Benitez walked away before Christmas, but the new Coach has taken them within two points of leaders Milan and into the Champions League quarter-finals.

“During the difficult period we went through, I thought Leonardo was the right man to bring a breath of fresh air to the club,” explained the patron.

Leo: 'Can't explain: only experience'

Leonardo was emotionally and physically exhausted after Inter's 3-2 victory. “This game cannot be explained: only experienced. It's symbolic of Inter.”

The Nerazzurri looked to be out of the Champions League when trailing 2-1 at half-time to Bayern Munich, 3-1 on aggregate, but fought back to go through on away goals.

“I am wrecked! They even did a tackle from behind with that third goal to really kill me off,” joked the Coach.

Leonardo's loose psychology

Where Julio Cesar's late penalty save rescued a point for Inter on Friday, it was their attitude going into the game that cost all three, says Rob Paton

Last week saw Leonardo's relaxed attitude cited as key to the club's mid-season turnaround. Praise had rightly been building for the Coach's impact that had created a momentum at San Siro that had yielded 11 League wins from 13 going into Week 29.

Leonardo believes in Inter

Inter boss Leonardo is confident that his side can eliminate Bayern Munich from the Champions League on Tuesday.

Although 1-0 down from the first leg, the Brazilian is hopeful that his outfit can triumph in Germany this week and reach the last eight.

"I'm optimistic because I know the strength and spirit of this group of Inter players," the former Milan midfielder and Coach noted.

"The first leg could have ended with a different result, therefore there would be no surprise if Inter won.

Leo keeps options open for Munich

The entire Inter squad, including Lucio, is making the trip to Germany for their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

The Nerazzurri lost the first leg 1-0 on home turf and must turn it around to continue defending their title.

Lucio is a major doubt to feature after suffering an upper thigh strain to the gluteal muscle during the 1-1 with Brescia.

The defender, a former Bayern man, has been called up for this game along with the not 100 per cent fit Thiago Motta, Esteban Cambiasso and Cristian Chivu.

Leo: 'Result could've been different'

Leonardo admits “the result could certainly have been different” as Inter were held by Brescia and risked defeat.

Samuel Eto'o had given the Nerazzurri the lead, but in the final five minutes Andrea Caracciolo equalised and had a penalty saved by Julio Cesar.

“We had many chances and the result could certainly have been different,” said the Coach after their Friday night game.

“Brescia defend well and have players who can invent something in attack, like Caracciolo and Alessandro Diamanti.

Mancini didn't expect Leo at Inter

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says he didn't expect Leonardo to cross the divide and swap Milan for Inter.

Leonardo accepted Massimo Moratti's offer to coach Inter in December following the dismissal of Rafa Benitez despite his past with Milan.

Speaking to Mediaset, Mancini said: "I didn't expect Leonardo to go to Inter.

"He is doing well and the Scudetto is his property, and the derby will be decisive."

Mancini was then asked about the progress of Mario Balotelli at Eastlands.
