Leonardo: 'It's all thanks to the players'

Leonardo gave all the credit for tonight's triumph to “the hunger of these players and their extraordinary humility.”

The Coach made an immediate impact on his Inter debut, beating Napoli 3-1 in his first match since taking over from Rafa Benitez.

“This victory was entirely down to the hunger of these players,” commented Leo.

Leo aims to start well

Leonardo would like to get off on the right foot in his first match in charge of Inter against Napoli on Thursday.

The Brazilian tactician replaced Rafa Benitez just before Christmas, accepting the job despite his past with Milan.

"I am not thinking about me. I have my emotions, but what counts is the team and they have given a signal in recent days," he said.

Inter will follow Leo, says Milito

Inter striker Diego Milito has welcomed the appointment of Leonardo as the club's new tactician.

Leonardo was hired just before Christmas after Inter and Rafa Benitez agreed to a mutual termination.

The Brazilian Coach has been taking his first training sessions at Appiano Gentile and Milito claims he has already left a 'really big impression'.

"He is a great person who has given a very clear message," Milito explained.

"The team will back him and I hope that he can help us realise important objectives."

Zanetti: 'Thrilling challenge for Leo'

Inter captain Javier Zanetti looks back on an amazing year and feels 2011 will be “a thrilling challenge for Leonardo and for us.”

The Nerazzurri won the Treble plus the Club World Cup and Italian Super Cup, but parted company with Rafa Benitez to bring in Leonardo on Christmas Eve.

Moratti: 'We wanted Leonardo in June'

Massimo Moratti reveals Leonardo was originally first choice for Inter in June, “but we thought Rafa Benitez could handle the situation.”

The Nerazzurri parted company with Benitez after the Club World Cup victory, just six months after replacing Jose Mourinho.

“It's true, I had thought of Leonardo in June, but it seemed out of place to ask him because he had just said he wanted a break after leaving Milan,” the President told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Inter talisman Marco Materazzi has welcomed the appointment of former Milan Coach Leonardo.

The Brazilian tactician replaces Rafa Benitez whose contract was terminated by mutual consent just before Christmas.

Moratti: 'Happy with Leonardo'

Inter President Massimo Moratti has presented new Coach Leonardo to the media. “I am very happy with this decision and won't put pressure on him.”

The patron caused shockwaves when he axed Rafa Benitez just six months into the contract and signed Milan legend Leo, but was at today's Press conference.

Leonardo: 'I couldn't say no to Inter'

Leonardo has held his first Press conference as Nerazzurri Coach. “I'll never forget Milan, but I couldn't say no to Inter.”

The tactician was appointed on Christmas Eve after Rafa Benitez's departure by mutual consent, but only begins training this afternoon.

“I have already spoken to all the players, because we don't have time to lose and play our first game on January 6. The squad and the club welcomed me positively and I thank them for that,” said the man who was on the Rossoneri bench last season.

Leo greeted by 3,000 Inter supporters

Around 3,000 fans attended Leonardo's first Inter training session at the Pinetina training ground.

Today's run-out also represented the first proper sighting of the squad since winning the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi.

The trophy was carried out by President Massimo Moratti, who handed it to captain Javier Zanetti for the fans to see.

The official Inter website noted that as soon as the new Coach stepped on to the training field, supporters sang: ‘Leonardo is one of us.'
