Piatek risk worth taking for Milan

The jury is still out on the hype behind Krzysztof Piatek’s red-hot start to life in Italy, but Matthew Santangelo believes this can pay off for Milan.

Piatek-Milan and Higuain-Chelsea imminent

Multiple sources claim Milan could secure Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa for €40m tonight, freeing Gonzalo Higuain for a Chelsea medical tomorrow.

Rossoneri director Leonardo met with Genoa director of sport Giorgio Perinetti this afternoon to discuss the proposal.

It’d be a loan deal with obligation to buy at the end of the season for €40m plus bonuses.

Balotelli sends Piatek to Milan?

Milan continue negotiations with Genoa for Krzysztof Piatek, as it’s reported the Grifone want Mario Balotelli as a replacement.

Gonzalo Higuain is pushing for a move to Chelsea, via his parent club Juventus, and Milan director Leonardo has remained in Italy for meetings rather than follow the team to Jeddah for tomorrow’s Supercoppa match.

Piatek 'very close' to Milan

Krzysztof Piatek is reportedly ‘very close’ to Milan as Leonardo is staying in Italy to close a deal with Genoa.

According to Sport Mediaset, Milan chiefs Paolo Scaroni, Ivan Gazidis and Paolo Maldini are representing the club in Saudi Arabia, where they will also discuss Gonzalo Higuain’s future.

The broadcaster explains Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi has been convinced by the Rossoneri’s offer of ‘a costly loan with an obligation to buy for around €40m’.

Leonardo-Gazidis split at Milan?

There is reportedly a split within Milan, as Leonardo wants to sell Hakan Calhanoglu to RB Leipzig, while Gennaro Gattuso and Ivan Gazidis blocked the move.

Some murmurs had already emerged over the last 48 hours from Panorama magazine, Calciomercato.it and others suggesting CEO Gazidis was getting close to Coach Gattuso, creating tension with director Leonardo.

Now La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Gazidis backed Gattuso when calling off a transfer, after Leonardo had worked to agree terms with RB Leipzig to sell Calhanoglu.

Leonardo: 'Higuain must get to work'

Milan director Leonardo had harsh words for Gonzalo Higuain, while confirming there were “no formal offers for Fabio Borini or Alen Halilovic.”

He spoke to the media after the presentation Press conference for Lucas Paquetá and did not hold back on unsettled Higuain.

“He has to make a decision and take on his share of the responsibility,” said Leo. “Not this continual yes, no, I’m not sure. He had a tough moment, he has to put it behind him and get to work.

Leonardo: 'Paqueta for creative Milan'

Director Leonardo and President Paolo Scaroni insist Lucas Paquetá proves Milan “want to get back to the top in an attack-minded and creative side.”

The 21-year-old trequartista became the most expensive ever transfer from Brazil to Italy, as the Rossoneri paid €35m plus up to €10m in bonuses to Flamengo.

“This signing confirms the intentions of Elliott to bring Milan back to the top,” said President Paolo Scaroni in the presentation Press conference.

Shevchenko: 'Gattuso man for Milan'

Andriy Shevchenko has urged Milan to stick with Gennaro Gattuso and Gonzalo Higuain. “They can beat Juventus in the Super Cup.”

The current Coach of Ukraine remains a Rossoneri legend thanks to two spells at San Siro, scoring 175 goals in 322 competitive games.

“The club needs to get back into the Champions League, because that is where Milan belong,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Gattuso meets Milan hierarchy

It’s believed Gennaro Gattuso met with the Milan hierarchy after the Spal game, and they reaffirmed their faith in him.

The Rossoneri signed off for the winter break with a win, a result the Coach badly needed after four games in a row without even scoring.

According to Sky, Leonardo, Paolo Maldini and new CEO Ivan Gazidis held a meeting with Gattuso after the match.

The directors reiterated their faith in the Coach, with Maldini and Leonardo having done so publicly on Friday.
