Leonardo: 'Paqueta for creative Milan'

Director Leonardo and President Paolo Scaroni insist Lucas Paquetá proves Milan “want to get back to the top in an attack-minded and creative side.”

The 21-year-old trequartista became the most expensive ever transfer from Brazil to Italy, as the Rossoneri paid €35m plus up to €10m in bonuses to Flamengo.

“This signing confirms the intentions of Elliott to bring Milan back to the top,” said President Paolo Scaroni in the presentation Press conference.

Shevchenko: 'Gattuso man for Milan'

Andriy Shevchenko has urged Milan to stick with Gennaro Gattuso and Gonzalo Higuain. “They can beat Juventus in the Super Cup.”

The current Coach of Ukraine remains a Rossoneri legend thanks to two spells at San Siro, scoring 175 goals in 322 competitive games.

“The club needs to get back into the Champions League, because that is where Milan belong,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Gattuso meets Milan hierarchy

It’s believed Gennaro Gattuso met with the Milan hierarchy after the Spal game, and they reaffirmed their faith in him.

The Rossoneri signed off for the winter break with a win, a result the Coach badly needed after four games in a row without even scoring.

According to Sky, Leonardo, Paolo Maldini and new CEO Ivan Gazidis held a meeting with Gattuso after the match.

The directors reiterated their faith in the Coach, with Maldini and Leonardo having done so publicly on Friday.

Gattuso's last Milan chance

Gennaro Gattuso is about to find out he is just as sackable as any of his Milan predecessors if he doesn't convincingly beat SPAL, writes Daryl Hammond.

One wonders how often both a Coach and youth team boss have been sacked in a week. With Milan Primavera boss Alessandro Lupi shown the door, many think senior boss Gennaro Gattuso may see the same fate should his Milan side secure a less than favourable result against SPAL this evening.

Leonardo: ‘Milan have to sell’

Leonardo tells Milan fans not to expect big signings in January - “not because we don’t want to, but because we can’t”.

The Rossoneri are operating under Financial Fair Play controls, so there won’t be big investment in Gennaro Gattuso’s squad next month.

“We signed [Lucas] Paquetà in October and got a letter in which they [UEFA] disputed that kind of investment,” technical director Leonardo revealed, speaking to various reporters at Milanello.

Leonardo: ‘Gattuso won't be sacked’

Milan technical director Leonardo insists “we’ve never thought about” sacking Coach Gennaro Gattuso.

There has been speculation that the former midfielder will be sacked if the Rossoneri don’t beat Spal tomorrow, especially given it’s the final match before the winter break.

“We never thought about changing Gattuso,” Leonardo told journalists at Milanello.

“We can deny this general situation. Milan started in a hurry this year, and we’re trying to fix a situation which started that way.

Leonardo rejects coaching return

Milan’s owners reportedly considered Leonardo to replace Gennaro Gattuso, but he has no desire to return to coaching.

The Brazilian is the Rossoneri’s technical director, but he has been Coach of both Milan clubs in the past.

Gattuso is under pressure, and could well be sacked after tomorrow’s Spal match, but the Corriere della Sera reports there are no real alternatives.

Antonio Conte is the ideal candidate, but he doesn’t want to take over a team with the season already underway.
