Germany manager Joachim Loew looks ahead to tomorrow's friendly with Italy. “It will be a meeting of two great national sides.”

Giving youth a chance

Cesare Prandelli has named a young Azzurri squad for this week's friendly against Germany. Serafino Ingardia praises his approach

There is something fascinating about the Italy squad which Cesare Prandelli has named ahead of the Germany friendly. The first cap for the latest Oriundo Thiago Motta is obviously very interesting, but the best news is the increased number of youngsters in the squad.

After years of talking about giving youngsters a chance and rejuvenating the team, Prandelli has finally kept his word and started a new process which will hopefully prepare the next generation ahead of Brazil 2014.

Buffon: 'Germany my Italy highlight'

Gigi Buffon insists Inter and Juventus should “put Calciopoli behind us,” and claims the 2006 Germany-Italy game “was the most important of my career.”

Tomorrow night's friendly in Dortmund is a replay of the 2006 World Cup semi-final, won by Italy 2-0 in the last moments of extra time.

“That was the most important, most wonderful and most exciting match of my Italy career, probably even more than my debut or the World Cup Final,” declared Buffon.

'Cassano knows it's his last chance'

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli claims Antonio Cassano is under no illusion that this is his last chance to shine at the highest level.

Cassano was called up to La Nazionale on Sunday for the first time since his epic falling out with Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone in late October.

The 28-year-old allegedly swore at Garrone and refused to attend an awards ceremony held in his honour, prompting Sampdoria to ask that his contract be rescinded.

Eventually the matter was resolved in December when Milan opted to take Cassano off Samp's books.

Prandelli wanted five from Palermo

Palermo would have had five players in the Italian squad for this week's German friendly had injuries not struck.

According to reports this evening, Italy boss Cesare Prandelli was hoping to select defenders Cesare Bovo and Federico Balzaretti in the squad.

Prandelli phoned the duo on Saturday to enquire about their availability, but the pair had to decline the call-up for fitness issues.

High-flying Palermo did have three other players named in the party though for the midweek game in Germany.
