The rise and call of Destro

Mattia Destro was one of a number of surprise inclusions in Italy’s 32-man Euro 2012 squad. Antonio Labbate takes a closer look at the Siena revelation.

The team bus pulls up. Mattia Destro throws his bag into the luggage compartment and climbs aboard. He sits in the same seat as always. Later, he pulls out his iPod, places his headphones over his ears and plays two songs – a Jennifer Lopez number and the Danza Kuduro dance anthem. The striker is ready for action.

Bonucci 'hungry for Euro 2012'

Leonardo Bonucci has thanked Antonio Conte for improving him as a player and has “incredible hunger” for Euro 2012.

“I improved a great deal thanks to Conte and I thank him, as be made me understand that at times I needed to be grittier and less lazy,” Bonucci told Sportal.

De Rossi: 'Fracture won't stop my Euros'

Daniele De Rossi has assured “nobody can miss a European Championship because of a fractured finger” after joining the Italy squad.

The Roma midfielder has been diagnosed with a fractured index finger on his right hand, but insists it will not affect his ability to perform in Ukraine and Poland this summer.

“Nobody can miss a European Championship because of a fractured finger,” De Rossi told fans at the station in Florence.

Chiellini will make Euro 2012

Giorgio Chiellini should be available for Euro 2012 after the Juventus man was ruled out for the next 20 days.

There were fears that the defender would miss the tournament after picking up a right thigh strain on Sunday.

The stopper, who can also play as a left-back, underwent tests today and he is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks.

Italy start their campaign against Spain on June 10.
