After again making the headlines for the wrong reasons, Giancarlo Rinaldi asks whether Italy boss Cesare Prandelli should take a Euro 2012 gamble on Mario Balotelli.

Cesare Prandelli, I like to imagine, must have picked up his mobile phone anxiously. He heard the familiar chime meaning he had received a message and then spotted the sender's name: Roberto Mancini. He opened the text with nervous anticipation – knowing there was only one subject matter it was likely to contain.

Panini select their Italy squad

Milan’s Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi of Villarreal have been omitted from the Italy squad by Panini in their latest collection.

The Italian sticker giants have released their Euro 2012 album where they have selected a 20-man Azzurri party. Actual boss Cesare Prandelli will pick 23.

Italy fall in rankings

Cesare Prandelli’s Italian national side have fallen outside the Top 10 of the FIFA World Rankings.

The Azzurri have slipped down three places and are now considered as the 12th best side in the international game.

Balotelli won't face Song action

Mario Balotelli has escaped a potential nine-match ban after the FA ruled it will not take retrospective action for his tackle on Alex Song.

There were fears the Manchester City and Italy striker would receive a huge suspension using video evidence for his leg-breaker challenge on the Arsenal star.

This evening the FA ruled it could not take retrospective action because the incident was seen by at least one of the four match officials.

Italy boss Prandelli forgives Balotelli

Cesare Prandelli says that Mario Balotelli’s latest dismissal did not breach his strict code of ethics when it comes to the Italian national side.

The Manchester City man has been omitted from squads in the past for on-field misconduct, but Prandelli has absolved him for his red card against Arsenal at the weekend.

Cassano: I thought I’d die

Antonio Cassano has recalled his emotions on finding out he required heart surgery and also revealed his intentions for a quick return to action.

The 29-year-old has been given the all clear to resume his professional playing career some five months on from suffering a mini stroke on the trip home from Milan’s game against Roma.
