Trapattoni hopes for Spain-Italy draw

Giovanni Trapattoni is hoping that Spain and Italy draw in Sunday evening’s Group C opening fixture at Euro 2012.

The Republic of Ireland Coach will face both teams in the group stages of this summer’s European Championships and recognises the importance of three points against Croatia for his team.

However, the former Italy boss suggested that even a draw with Slaven Bilic’s side will suffice for Irish hopes of a quarter-final berth, if the Azzurri also draw with Spain.

Italy need club-like Di Natale

Italy may end up needing the goals of Antonio Di Natale at Euro 2012 if they are to progress, but will they be forthcoming? Antonio Labbate writes.

Antonio Di Natale was the last Italian player to touch the ball at Euro 2008. It wasn’t a happy memory for himself or the country as a whole. His failure to slot home during the Vienna shoot-out gave Cesc Fabregas the opportunity to put Spain into the semi-finals and he, unlike the Udinese striker, didn’t miss.
